AbstractIn this paper, a nonlinear elliptic obstacle problem is studied. The nonlinear nonhomogeneous partial differential operator generalizes the notions of p-Laplacian while on the right hand side we have a multivalued convection term (i.e., a multivalued reaction term may depend also on the gradient of the solution). The main result of the paper provides existence of the solutions as well as bondedness and closedness of the set of weak solutions of the problem, under quite general assumptions on the data. The main tool of the paper is the surjectivity theorem for multivalued functions given by the sum of a maximal monotone multivalued operator and a bounded multivalued pseudomonotone one.

A novel splitting algorithm for solving operator inclusion with the sum of the maximal monotone operator and the monotone Lipschitz continuous operator in the Banach space is proposed and studied. The proposed algorithm is an adaptive variant of the forward-reflected-backward algorithm, where the rule used to update the step size does not require knowledge of the Lipschitz constant of the operator. For operator inclusions in 2-uniformly convex and uniformly smooth Banach space, the theorem on the weak convergence of the method is proved.

The paper is concerned with an optimal control problem governed by the equations of elasto plasticity with linear kinematic hardening and the inertia term at small strain. The objective is to optimize the displacement field and plastic strain by controlling volume forces. The idea given in [10] is used to transform the state equation into an evolution variational inequality (EVI) involving a certain maximal monotone operator. Results from [27] are then used to analyze the EVI. A regularization is obtained via the Yosida approximation of the maximal monotone operator, this approximation is smoothed further to derive optimality conditions for the smoothed optimal control problem.

In this paper, we propose a new methodology to study evolutionary variational-hemivariational inequalities based on the theory of evolution equations governed by maximal monotone operators. More precisely, the proposed approach, based on a hidden maximal monotonicity, is used to explore the well-posedness for a class of evolutionary variational-hemivariational inequalities involving history-dependent operators and related problems with periodic and antiperiodic boundary conditions. The applicability of our theoretical results is illustrated through applications to a fractional evolution inclusion and a dynamic semipermeability problem.

One of the major problems in the theory of maximal monotone operators is to find a point in the solution set Zer( ), set of zeros of maximal monotone mapping . The problem of finding a zero of a maximal monotone in real Hilbert space has been investigated by many researchers. Rockafellar considered the proximal point algorithm and proved the weak convergence of this algorithm with the maximal monotone operator. Güler gave an example showing that Rockafellar’s proximal point algorithm does not converge strongly in an infinite-dimensional Hilbert space. In this paper, we consider an explicit method that is strong convergence in an infinite-dimensional Hilbert space and a simple variant of the hybrid steepest-descent method, introduced by Yamada. The strong convergence of this method is proved under some mild conditions. Finally, we give an application for the optimization problem and present some numerical experiments to illustrate the effectiveness of the proposed algorithm.

In this paper, we propose a new modified relaxed inertial regularization method for finding a common solution of a generalized split feasibility problem, the zeros of sum of maximal monotone operators, and fixed point problem of two nonlinear mappings in real Hilbert spaces. We prove that the proposed method converges strongly to a minimum-norm solution of the aforementioned problems without using the conventional two cases approach. In addition, we apply our convergence results to the classical variational inequality and equilibrium problems, and present some numerical experiments to show the efficiency and applicability of the proposed method in comparison with other existing methods in the literature. The results obtained in this paper extend, generalize and improve several results in this direction.

We study systems of nonlinear partial differential equations of parabolic type, in which the elliptic operator is replaced by the first-order divergence operator acting on a flux function, which is related to the spatial gradient of the unknown through an additional implicit equation. This setting, broad enough in terms of applications, significantly expands the paradigm of nonlinear parabolic problems. Formulating four conditions concerning the form of the implicit equation, we first show that these conditions describe a maximal monotone [Formula: see text]-coercive graph. We then establish the global-in-time and large-data existence of a (weak) solution and its uniqueness. To this end, we adopt and significantly generalize Minty’s method of monotone mappings. A unified theory, containing several novel tools, is developed in a way to be tractable from the point of view of numerical approximations.
