A Gram-stain-positive, non-motile, coccus-shaped bacterium, strain THG-a14T, was isolated from soil of Gyeyang mountain in Incheon, Republic of Korea. The isolate grew optimally at 28 °C, at pH 6.5–7.5 and with 0–3 % (w/v) NaCl. Based on 16S rRNA gene sequence comparisons, strain THG-a14T was closely related to Phycicoccus aerophilus 5516T-20T (97.7 %), P. ginsenosidimutans BXN5-13T (97.6 %), ‘P. ochangensis’ L1b-b9 (97.4 %) and P. bigeumensis MSL-03 (97.2 %). The DNA G+C content of strain THG-a14T was 71.6 mol%. In DNA–DNA hybridization, the DNA–DNA relatedness between strain THG-a14T and its closest phylogenetically neighbours was below 50.0 %. Strain THG-a14T was characterized chemotaxonomically as having meso-diaminopimelic acid in the cell-wall peptidoglycan. Strain THG-a14T contained glucose and ribose as whole-cell-wall sugars and menaquinone MK-8(H4) as the major isoprenoid quinone. Polar lipids in strain THG-a14T consisted of diphosphatidylglycerol, phosphatidylglycerol, phosphatidylinositol, phosphoaminoglycolipids, unidentified phospholipids and unidentified lipids. The major fatty acids were iso-C16: 0, iso-C15: 0 and C17: 1ω8c. On the basis of our polyphasic taxonomy study, strain THG-a14T represents a novel species within the genus Phycicoccus, for which the name Phycicoccus soli sp. nov. is proposed. The type strain is THG-a14T ( = KACC 17892T = JCM 19837T).

Abstract The moderately halophilic, Gram-stain-positive, spore-forming rods, designated SKP4-8T and SKP8-2T isolated from a traditional fermented shrimp paste (Ka-pi), were taxonomic studied based on polyphasic approach. Strain SKP4-8T grew at pH 6.0-9.0 (optimum 7.0), at 25-45°C (optimum 37°C) and in 1-16 % (w/v) NaCl (optimum 5-10). Strain SKP8-2T grew at pH 6.0-9.0 (optimum 8.0), at 25-45°C (optimum 37°C) and in 0-20 % (w/v) NaCl (optimum 3-10 %). The strains contained meso-diaminopimelic acid in cell-wall peptidoglycan and the major menaquinone was MK-7. Strain SKP4-8T contained iso-C15:0, antesio-C15:0 and iso-C17:0; and strain SKP8-2T contained antesio-C15:0, iso-C15:0, iso-C16:0 and antesio-C17:0 as major cellular fatty acids.Phosphatidylglycerol, diphosphatidylglycerol, unknown phospholipids and an unknown glycolipid were detected as major polar lipids. On the basis of 16S rRNA gene sequence analysis, strains SKP4-8T and SKP8-2T belonged to the genus Allobacillus and was closely related to Allobacillus halotolerans LMG 24826T with 98.8 % and 99.3 % similarity, respectively. The comparative genome analysis based on average nucleotide identity (ANI) and digital DNA-DNA hybridization revealed that both strains showed the values below 95 and 70 %, from each other and the Allobacillus halotolerans LMG 24826T, respectively. Based on data from this polyphasic study, strains SKP4-8T and SKP8-2T represent the novel species of the genus Allobacillus and the name Allobacillus salarius sp. nov. was proposed for SKP4-8T (=KCTC 33905T =LMG 30016T =TISTR 2499T); and Allobacillus saliphilus sp. nov. for SKP8-2T (=KCTC 33906T =LMG 29682T =TISTR 2558T).

Strain JC267T was isolated from pebbles collected from Pingleshwar beach, Gujarat, India. Cells are Gram-stain-positive, facultatively anaerobic, non-motile rods forming sub-terminal endospores in swollen ellipsoidal to oval sporangia. Strain JC267T contains anteiso-C15 : 0, iso-C15 : 0, iso-C14 : 0, iso-C16 : 0, C16 : 0 and anteiso-C17 : 0 as major (>5 %) cellular fatty acids. Polar lipids include phosphatidylglycerol, phospholipids (PL1–3), glycolipids (GL1–2) and an unidentified lipid. Cell-wall amino acids are composed of diagnostic meso-diaminopimelic acid, dl-alanine and a small amount of d-glutamic acid. The genomic DNA G+C content of strain JC267T is 45.5 mol%. The 16S rRNA gene sequence of strain JC267T showed highest sequence similarities of < 98.41 % with all species of the genus Bacillus when subjected to EzTaxon-e blast analysis. The reassociation values based on DNA–DNA hybridization of strain JC267T with Bacillus halosaccharovorans IBRC-M 10095T and Bacillus niabensis JCM 16399T were 26 ± 1 % and 34 ± 3 %, respectively. Based on taxonomic data obtained using a polyphasic approach, strain JC267T represents a novel species of the genus Bacillus, for which the name Bacillus endolithicus sp. nov. is proposed. The type strain is JC267T ( = IBRC-M 10914T = KCTC 33579T).

A Gram-positive, yellowish bacterium strain AK-1Twas isolated from soil sample collected from peanut (Arachis hypogaea) crop field and studied by using a polyphasic approach. The organism had morphological and chemotaxonomic properties consistent with its classification in the genusAgromyces. Phylogenetic analysis of the 16S rRNA gene sequence showed that strain AK-1Twas closely related toAgromyces aurantiacus(98.6%) followed byAgromyces soli(98.3%),Agromyces tropicus(97.6%),Agromyces ulmi(97.3%),Agromyces flavus(97.2%), andAgromyces italicus(97.0%), whereas the sequence similarity values with respect to the otherAgromycesspecies with validly published names were between 95.3 and 96.7 %. However, the DNA-DNA hybridization values obtained between strain AK-1Tand other related strains were well below the threshold that is required for the proposal of a novel species. The DNAG+Ccontent of the strain is 71.8 mol%. The above data in combination with the phenotypic distinctiveness of AK-1Tclearly indicate that the strain represents a novel species, for which the nameAgromyces arachidissp. nov. is proposed. The type strain is AK-1T(=MTCC 10524T= JCM 19251T).

A novel halophilic bacterium, designated strain MSS4T, was isolated from the solar salterns of Mesolongi, Greece. The micro-organism, a motile, Gram-stain-positive, aerobic rod, proliferated at salinities of 1.0–4.0 M NaCl, with optimal growth at 2.5 M NaCl. Endospores were not observed. Strain MSS4T showed optimal growth at 37 °C and pH 8.0. The G+C content of its DNA was 47.2 mol%. The polar lipid pattern of strain MSS4T consisted of diphosphatidylglycerol, phosphatidylglycerol, phosphatidic acid and phosphatidylethanolamine. It possessed anteiso-C15 : 0, C18 : 0, C16 : 0 and anteiso-C17 : 0 as the major fatty acids (altogether representing 84.7 % of the total). The predominant isoprenoid quinone was MK-7. The cell-wall peptidoglycan contained meso-diaminopimelic acid. 16S rRNA gene sequence analysis showed that the new isolate has 96.1 % similarity to Bacillus qingdaonensis CM1T and Bacillus aidingensis 17-5T, 95.5 % to Bacillus salarius BH169T and lower similarity to other Bacillus species. These results justify the assignment of strain MSS4T to a novel species within the genus Bacillus, for which the name Bacillus halochares sp. nov. is proposed. The type strain is MSS4T (=LMG 24571T =DSM 21373T).

A Gram-reaction-positive, aerobic, coccus- to rod-shaped, non-motile, non-spore-forming bacterium (strain UKS-03T) was isolated from a sediment sample of Ungok Lake in Gochang, Republic of Korea. The taxonomic position of this bacterium was determined in an investigation based on a polyphasic approach. On the basis of 16S rRNA gene sequence analysis, strain UKS-03T was shown to belong to the family Nocardioidaceae and to be related most closely to Nocardioides ginsengisegetis Gsoil 485T (98.5 % similarity), Nocardioides koreensis MSL-09T (98.4 %) and ‘Nocardioides panaciterrulae’ Gsoil 958 (97.3 %). Strain UKS-03T was characterized chemotaxonomically as having ll-2,6-diaminopimelic acid in its cell-wall peptidoglycan, MK-8(H4) as the predominant menaquinone, diphosphatidylglycerol and phosphatidylglycerol as the main polar lipids, and iso-C16 : 0, C17 : 1ω8c and C17 : 0 10-methyl as its major fatty acids. The G+C content of the genomic DNA was 71.9 mol%. Mean DNA–DNA relatedness values between strain UKS-03T and N. ginsengisegetis Gsoil 485T, N. koreensis KCTC 19272T and ‘N. panaciterrulae’ Gsoil 958 were 37.5 ± 7.2, 6.8 ± 0.9 and 3.1 ± 0.7 %, respectively. On the basis of the data from this polyphasic taxonomic study, strain UKS-03T represents a novel species of the genus Nocardioides, for which the name Nocardioides ungokensis sp. nov. is proposed. The type strain is UKS-03T ( = KACC 18304T = LMG 28591T).

A Gram-stain negative, facultatively anaerobic, non-motile, rod-shaped bacterium, designated strain THG-A13T, was isolated from Aglaia odorata rhizosphere soil in Gyeonggi-do, Republic of Korea. Based on 16S rRNA gene sequence comparisons, strain THG-A13T had close similarity with Lysobacter niabensis GH34-4T (98.5 %), Lysobacter oryzae YC6269T (97.9 %) and Lysobacter yangpyeongensis GH19-3T (97.3 %). Chemotaxonomic data revealed that strain THG-A13T possesses ubiquinone-8 (Q8) as the predominant isoprenoid quinone and iso-C15 : 0, iso-C16 : 0 and iso-C17 : 1ω9c as the major fatty acids. The major polar lipids were phosphatidylethanolamine, phosphatidylglycerol) and diphosphatidylglycerol. The G+C content was 66.3 mol%. The DNA–DNA relatedness values between strain THG-A13T and its closest phylogenetic neighbours were below 18.0 %. These data corroborated the affiliation of strain THG-A13T to the genus Lysobacter . These data suggest that the isolate represents a novel species for which the name Lysobacter terrae sp. nov. is proposed, with THG-A13T as the type strain ( = KACC 17646T = JCM 19613T).

A novel actinomycete, designated HM 537T, was isolated from soil in Hamedan Province, Iran. Cell-wall hydrolysates of strain HM 537T contained meso-diaminopimelic acid, and whole-cell hydrolysates contained ribose, glucose, galactose, rhamnose and traces of mannose. The main phospholipids were diphosphatidylglycerol, phosphatidylethanolamine, hydroxyphosphatidylethanolamine, phosphatidylinositol and an unknown phospholipid. MK-9(H4), an unknown MK and MK-10(H4) were the predominant menaquinones. The major fatty acids included iso-C16 : 0, iso-C15 : 0, iso-C16 : 1 G and 9(?)-methyl C16 : 0. Strain HM 537T had the highest 16S rRNA gene sequence similarity to Saccharothrix hoggarensis DSM 45457T (99.5 %) and Saccharothrix saharensis DSM 45456T (99.0 %). DNA–DNA hybridization studies showed relatedness values of 13.8 ± 3.3 % with S. hoggarensis DSM 45457T and 16.3 ± 3.5 % with S. saharensis DSM 45456T. Based on the results of phenotypic and genotypic studies, strain HM 537T represents a novel species of the genus Saccharothrix, for which the name Saccharothrix ecbatanensis sp. nov. is proposed. The type strain is HM 537T ( = DSM 45486T = UTMC 00537T = CCUG 63021T).

AbstractA Gram-positive, aerobic, rod-shaped bacterium, designated as strain 1605-214T, was isolated from the blood sample of a patient with cholangitis. Based on its 16S rRNA gene sequence, the strain 1605-214T belonged to the genus Cohnella and exhibited 97.9% sequence identity with Cohnella luojiensis DSM 24270T (GQ214052). DNA–DNA hybridization, digital DNA–DNA hybridization, and average nucleotide identity values between the two species were 23% ± 1.9, 21.1%, and 77.2%, respectively. The cellular fatty acids of strain 1605-214T were mainly comprised of anteiso-C15:0 (36.1%), iso-C16:0 (16.5%), and C16:0 (15.1%). The predominant quinone was menaquinone-7; predominant polar lipids were diphosphatidylglycerol, phosphatidylethanolamine, and aminophospholipid-1. The cell wall peptidoglycan of strain 1605-214T contained meso-diaminopimelic acid. DNA G + C content of strain 1605-214T was 50.6 mol%. 5187 genes out of a total of 5413 (94.6%) were assigned putative functions using eggNOG v5.0. Based on genotypic characteristics and genomic sequence analysis results, strain 1605-214T was confirmed to represent a novel species of genus Cohnella, for which the name Cohnella cholangitidis sp. nov., was proposed.

A novel, Gram-positive, non-motile, endospore-forming and moderately halophilic bacterium, strain GrbiT, was isolated from a traditional Korean fermented seafood. The organism grew optimally in the presence of 10–15 % NaCl, at 37 °C and pH 8.0. The peptidoglycan of the cell wall consisted of meso-diaminopimelic acid, and the predominant menaquinone was MK-7. The major fatty acids of strain GrbiT were iso-C16 : 0 (36.4 %), anteiso-C15 : 0 (30.3 %) and iso-C14 : 0 (18.2 %). The polar lipids were phosphatidylglycerol, diphosphatidylglycerol and an unidentified glycolipid. The genomic DNA G+C content was 42.5 mol%. Strain GrbiT was most closely related to the type strain Lentibacillus kapialis JCM 12580T, with which it shared 97.5 % 16S rRNA gene sequence similarity. The DNA–DNA hybridization value between strains GrbiT and L. kapialis JCM 12580T was 8 %. Based on phenotypic, genotypic and phylogenetic data, strain GrbiT should be classified as a novel species within the genus Lentibacillus, for which the name Lentibacillus jeotgali sp. nov. is proposed. The type strain is GrbiT (=KCTC 13300T=JCM 15795T).

Strain LU14T, isolated from the roots of Lupinus angustifolius, was characterized using a polyphasic approach. 16S rRNA gene sequence studies showed a similarity of 98·7 % to the corresponding sequence of Kribbella sandramycini DSM 15626T. Chemotaxonomic data gathered for fatty acids, phospholipids, cell-wall peptidoglycan and menaquinones strongly supported the classification of this strain in the genus Kribbella and DNA–DNA hybridization studies suggested that it may represent a novel species. Many physiological features were found that clearly distinguished isolate LU14T from other Kribbella species. Based on the above data, a novel species of the genus Kribbella, Kribbella lupini sp. nov., is proposed with the type strain LU14T (=DSM 16683T=LMG 22957T).
