We discuss the classification of resonances observed in the optical excitation functions of helium and show that there are series of terms 1s ns 2 2 S and 1s ns n p 2 P. Two other resonances are identified as 1s 3p 2 2 D and possibly 1s 3p 2 2 S and may also be members of series. Strong features in the excitation functions of D states are identified as shape resonances in states of high angular momentum. We draw attention to a number of sharp and weak features which can be seen both in excitation studies and elastic scattering, but which do not fit into the general scheme.

Excitation functions for the reactions 9Be(p,po)9Be, 9Be(p,P2)9Be*(2'43 MeV), 9Be(p,do)8Be and 9Be(p, cxo)6Li have been measured at 60�, 105� and 140�. With the exception of a resonance observed in the elastic scattering channel at 6� 5 MeV, no resonant structure was found in any excitation function

We have performed, elastic backscattering measurements for the weakly bound nuclei 6,7Li on the medium and heavy mass targets 58Ni, 116,120Sn, 208Pb at sub- and near-barrier energies (0.6 to 1.3 EC.b.). Excitation functions of elastic scattering cross sections have been measured at 160O and 170O and the corresponding ratios to Rutherford scattering and relevant barrier distributions have been extracted. These measurements will complement recent work on a 28Si target for probing the potential at sub- and near barrier energies and relevant reaction mechanisms.
