AbstractA search for charged Higgs bosons produced in vector boson fusion processes and decaying into vector bosons, using proton–proton collisions at $$\sqrt{s}=13\,{\text {TeV}} $$ s = 13 TeV at the LHC, is reported. The data sample corresponds to an integrated luminosity of 137$$\,{\text {fb}}^{-1}$$ fb - 1 collected with the CMS detector. Events are selected by requiring two or three electrons or muons, moderate missing transverse momentum, and two jets with a large rapidity separation and a large dijet mass. No excess of events with respect to the standard model background predictions is observed. Model independent upper limits at 95% confidence level are reported on the product of the cross section and branching fraction for vector boson fusion production of charged Higgs bosons as a function of mass, from 200 to 3000$$\,{\text {GeV}}$$ GeV . The results are interpreted in the context of the Georgi–Machacek model.

Abstract A search for charged Higgs bosons decaying into W±W± or W±Z bosons is performed, involving experimental signatures with two leptons of the same charge, or three or four leptons with a variety of charge combinations, missing transverse momentum and jets. A data sample of proton-proton collisions at a centre-of-mass energy of 13 TeV recorded with the ATLAS detector at the Large Hadron Collider between 2015 and 2018 is used. The data correspond to a total integrated luminosity of 139 fb−1. The search is guided by a type-II seesaw model that extends the scalar sector of the Standard Model with a scalar triplet, leading to a phenomenology that includes doubly and singly charged Higgs bosons. Two scenarios are explored, corresponding to the pair production of doubly charged H±± bosons, or the associated production of a doubly charged H±± boson and a singly charged H± boson. No significant deviations from the Standard Model predictions are observed. H±± bosons are excluded at 95% confidence level up to 350 GeV and 230 GeV for the pair and associated production modes, respectively.

The impacts of a heavy top quark on the relation between the vector boson masses and the mixing angle at the Z peak, the on-resonance asymmetries, and the Z decay widths are reviewed in the minimal model and extensions within SU (2) × U (1). Of particular interest are models with two scalar doublets where the charged Higgs bosons can give a sizeable negative contribution to the partial width [Formula: see text] This enhancement of the Standard Model top effect can be used to separate models with charged Higgs bosons coupling to the (t, b) doublet from other classes of models affecting only the ρ-parameter. Precision measurements of the Z partial widths will provide significant constraints on the two doublet models if the top quark is very heavy.

Abstract The presence of charged Higgs bosons is a generic prediction of multiplet extensions of the Standard Model (SM) Higgs sector. Focusing on the Two-Higgs-Doublet-Model (2HDM) with type I and lepton-specific Yukawa sectors, we discuss the charged Higgs boson collider phenomenology in the theoretically and experimentally viable parameter space. While almost all existing experimental searches at the LHC target the fermionic decays of charged Higgs bosons, we point out that the bosonic decay channels — especially the decay into a non-SM-like Higgs boson and a W boson — often dominate over the fermionic channels. Moreover, we revisit two genuine BSM effects on the properties of the discovered Higgs boson — the charged Higgs contribution to the diphoton rate and the Higgs decay to two light Higgs bosons — and their implication for the charged Higgs boson phenomenology. As main result of the present paper, we propose five two-dimensional benchmark scenarios with distinct phenomenological features in order to facilitate the design of dedicated LHC searches for charged Higgs bosons decaying into a W boson and a light, non-SM-like Higgs boson.
