This paper reviews the search for light dark matter in beam dump experiments with a special emphasis on the necessity of beam purity for precise background rejection at the sensitivities aimed at these experiments. As a case study we cite the P348 experiment which has test beam time in Fall 2015 at the SPS H4 beam line at CERN and aims to search for theU′(1)gauge boson,A′, which as per one model of dark matter mediates a weak interaction between ordinary matter and dark matter via mixing of these “dark photons” with ordinary photon. The experiment aims to probe the still unexplored area of mixing strength10-5≤ϵ≤10-3and massesMA′≤100 MeV by using 10–300 GeV electron beam from the CERN SPS. This paper presents the simulation results for rejection of background due to beam impurity, by tracking the incoming particles with Micromegas detectors at a level <10-10.

Polarized positrons in addition to polarized electrons are a highly desirable feature of future linear e+e-colliders. The motivation for polarized positrons, and a demonstration experiment for the undulator-based production of polarized positrons are reviewed. This experiment ('E-166') uses the 50 GeV Final Focus Test electron beam at SLAC with a 1 m-long helical undulator to make ≈ 10MeV polarized photons. These photons are then converted in a thin (≈ 0.5 radiation length) target into positrons (and electrons) with about 50% polarization.

Instrument for bunch tilt measurements in linear collider is presented. Electron beam probe basic principles are described and method of bunch tilt measurements is discussed. The simulation results of testing beam interaction with tilted relativistic bunch are presented. Main components of the bunch tilt measurement error are determined.

Since 2014, a SLAC-Aarhus-Ferrara-CalPoly collaboration augmented by members of ANL and MIT has performed electron and positron channeling experiments using bent silicon crystals at the SLAC End Station A Test Beam as well as the FACET accelerator test facility. These experiments have revealed a remarkable channeling efficiency of about 24% under our conditions. Volume reflection is even more efficient with almost the whole beam taking part in the reflection process. A positron experiment demonstrated quasi-channeling oscillations for the first time at high beam energy. In our most recent experiment we measured the spectrum of gamma radiation for crystal orientations covering channeling and volume reflection. This series of experiments supports the development of more advanced crystalline devices capable e.g. of producing narrow-band gamma rays with electron beams or studying the interaction of the electrons with the wakefields generated in the crystal at high beam intensity.
