The title compounds, 6-(2-hydroxybenzyl)-5H-thiazolo[3,2-a]pyrimidin-5-one, C13H8N2O3S, (1), and 6-(2-hydroxybenzyl)-3-methyl-5H-thiazolo[3,2-a]pyrimidin-5-one, C14H10N2O3S, (2), were synthesized when a chromone-3-carboxylic acid, activated with (benzotriazol-1-yloxy)tripyrrolidinylphosphonium hexafluoridophosphate (PyBOP), was reacted with a primary heteromamine. Instead of the expected amidation, the unusual title thiazolopyrimidine-5-one derivatives were obtained serendipitously and a mechanism of formation is proposed. Both compounds present an intramolecular O—H...O hydrogen bond, which generates anS(6) ring. The dihedral angles between the heterocyclic moiety and the 2-hydroxybenzoyl ring are 55.22 (5) and 46.83 (6)° for (1) and (2), respectively. In the crystals, the molecules are linked by weak C—H...O hydrogen bonds and π–π stacking interactions.

The title compound, C11H11ClN4OS, crystallizes with two molecules,AandB, in the asymmetric unit in which the dihedral angles between the triazole and benzene rings are 54.6 (3) and 56.0 (3)°. Both molecules feature an intramolecular O—H...N hydrogen bond, which generates anS(6) ring. In the crystal,A–Bdimers are linked by pairs of weak C—H...S hydrogen bonds along with π–π stacking interactions between the triazole rings [centroid–centroid separations = 3.631 (3) and 3.981 (4)Å]. N—H...S hydrogen bonds link the dimers into [100] chains, which featureR22(8) loops.

In the title compounds,N-(5-acetyl-2-methylphenyl)quinoline-2-carboxamide [C19H16N2O2, (I)],N-(5-acetyl-2-bromophenyl)quinoline-2-carboxamide [C18H13BrN2O2, (II)] andN-(5-acetyl-2-ethynylphenyl)quinoline-2-carboxamide [C20H14N2O2, (III)], the quinoline ring system is essentially planar and forms a dihedral angles of 3.68 (5) (I), 5.59 (7) (II) and 1.87 (6)° (III) with the acetyl-substituted ring. The molecular structures of (I) and (III) each feature an intramolecular N—H...N hydrogen bond, forming anS(5) ring, while in (II) an intramolecular bifurcated N—H...(N,Br) hydrogen bond forms twoS(5) rings. In the crystals, weak C—H...O hydrogen bonds link molecules of (I) intoC(7) chains long [010], molecules of (II) into chains ofR22(8) rings along [110] and molecules of (III) intoC(8) chains along [010]. In (I), there are no significant π–π stacking interactions under 4 Å, but in both (II) and (III), π–π interactions link the weak hydrogen-bonded chains into layers parallel to (001) [centroid–centroid disttances of 3.748 (1) Å in (II) and 3.577 (1), 3.784 (1) and 3.780 (1) Å in (III)].

In the title molecule, C24H23N3O3S2, the benzothiadiazole ring system is essentially planar, with an r.m.s. deviation of 0.020 (8) Å. The thiophene and hydroxy-substitiuted rings form dihedral angles of 23.43 (9) and 35.45 (9)°, respectively, with the benzothiadiazole ring system. An intramolecular O—H...N hydrogen bond is observed. In the crystal, weak C—H...O hydrogen bonds and π–π stacking interactions [centroid–centroid distance = 3.880 (3) Å] link molecules into chains along [100]. In addition, there are short S...S contacts [3.532 (3) Å] which link these chains, forming a two-dimensional network parallel to (010).

The molecule of the title compound, C14H11N3O5, is approximately planar, the dihedral angles between the two aromatic rings being 4.63 (7)°. O—H...N, N—H...O and O—H...O hydrogen bonds and π–π stacking interactions help to consolidate the crystal packing.

The structures of five of the possible six isomers of (E,E)-1,4-bis(nitrophenyl)-2,3-diaza-1,3-butadiene are reported, including two polymorphs of one of the isomers. (E,E)-1,4-Bis(2-nitrophenyl)-2,3-diaza-1,3-butadiene, C14H10N4O4 (I), crystallizes in two polymorphic forms (Ia) and (Ib) in which the molecules lie across centres of inversion in space groups P21/n and P21/c, respectively: the molecules in (Ia) and (Ib) are linked into chains by aromatic π...π stacking interactions and C—H...π(arene) hydrogen bonds, respectively. Molecules of (E,E)-1-(2-nitrophenyl)-4-(3-nitrophenyl)-2,3-diaza-1,3-butadiene (II) are linked into sheets by two independent C—H...O hydrogen bonds. The molecules of (E,E)-1,4-bis(3-nitrophenyl)-2,3-diaza-1,3-butadiene (III) lie across inversion centres in the space group P21/n, and a combination of a C—H...O hydrogen bond and a π...π stacking interaction links the molecules into sheets. A total of four independent C—H...O hydrogen bonds link the molecules of (E,E)-1-(3-nitrophenyl)-4-(4-nitrophenyl)-2,3-diaza-1,3-butadiene (IV) into sheets. The molecular and supramolecular structures of eight N 4-substituted 2,4-diamino-6-benzyloxy-5-nitrosopyrimidines are discussed, along with one analogue containing no nitroso substituent. The nitroso derivatives all exhibit polarized molecular-electronic structures leading to extensive charge-assisted hydrogen bonding between the molecules. The intermolecular interactions include hard hydrogen bonds of N—H...O and N—H...N types, together with O—H...O and O—H...N types in the monohydrate of 2-amino-6-benzyloxy-4-piperidino-5-nitrosopyrimidine, soft hydrogen bonds of C—H...O, C—H...π(arene) and N—H...π(arene) types and aromatic π...π stacking interactions. The predominant supramolecular structure types take the form of chains and sheets, but no two of the structures determined here exhibit the same combination of hydrogen-bond types.

The racemic title dipyrrolopyrrolizine compound crystallizes from dimethylformamide as a disolvate, C55H39Cl2N7O6·2C3H7NO. None of the four fused heterocyclic rings is planar; one adopts an envelope conformation, two others adopt half-chair conformations and the fourth adopts a conformation intermediate between an envelope and a half-chair. The arrangement of the ring fusions is such as to preclude the possibility of internal mirror symmetry. The three independent molecular components are weakly linked by C—H...O hydrogen bonds, and the dipyrrolopyrrolizine molecules are linked by a combination of four C—H...O and one C—H...π(arene) hydrogen bond to form a three-dimensional framework, from which the dimethylformamide solvent molecules are pendent. However, aromatic π–π stacking interactions are absent in the structure.

(E)-2-(2-Benzylidenehydrazinylidene)quinoxaline, C15H12N4, crystallized with two molecules in the asymmetric unit. The structures of six halogen derivatives of this compound were also investigated: (E)-2-[2-(2-chlorobenzylidene)hydrazinylidene]quinoxaline, C15H11ClN4; (E)-2-[2-(3-chlorobenzylidene)hydrazinylidene]quinoxaline, C15H11ClN4; (E)-2-[2-(4-chlorobenzylidene)hydrazinylidene]quinoxaline, C15H11ClN4; (E)-2-[2-(2-bromobenzylidene)hydrazinylidene]quinoxaline, C15H11BrN4; (E)-2-[2-(3-bromobenzylidene)hydrazinylidene]quinoxaline, C15H11BrN4; (E)-2-[2-(4-bromobenzylidene)hydrazinylidene]quinoxaline, C15H11BrN4. The 3-Cl and 3-Br compounds are isomorphous, as are the 4-Cl and 4-Br compounds. In all of these compounds, it was found that the supramolecular structures are governed by similar predominant patterns,viz.strong intermolecular N—H...N(pyrazine) hydrogen bonds supplemented by weak C—H...N(pyrazine) hydrogen-bond interactions in the 2- and 3-halo compounds and by C—H...Cl/Br interactions in the 4-halo compounds. In all compounds, there are π–π stacking interactions.

In the title hydrate, C19H16N2O4·H2O, the 4H-chromen-4-one segment is slightly twisted, with a dihedral angle between the two six-membered rings of 3.30 (5)°. The dihedral angles between the plane of the pyranone ring and the hydrazide plane and between the planes of the pyranone ring and the benzene ring of thep-methoxybenzene unit are 26.69 (4) and 2.23 (3)°, respectively. The molecule is connected to the solvent water molecule by an N—H...O hydrogen bond. In the crystal, there are π–π stacking interactions between centrosymmetrically related pyranone rings [centroid–centroid distance = 3.5394 (9) Å], as well as bridges formed by the water moleculesviaO—H...O hydrogen bonds.
