During the decade of research, the Research Institute “Mykolaiv Astronomical Observatory” (RI “MAO”) developed hardware and software for monitoring, extracting, and calculating the parameters of meteor phenomena using the forward scattering by meteor ionized trail of the signals of over-the-horizon FM-stations broadcasted in the frequency range of 88—108 MHz. This allowed creating a network of observations of meteor phenomena in the radio range, which consists of six stations located in Mykolaiv (three stations), Rivne, Lviv, and Hlukhiv. The stations have identical hardware and software. Yagi-Uda antennas with six or eight horizontal vibrators and SDR receivers based at RTR2832U microchip are used to receive radio signals. The station software performs continuous registration and analysis of received radio signals at the output of quadrature detectors of the receivers, automatic detection of moments of appearances of meteor reflections, formation, and sending by e-mail daily reports on detected meteor phenomena. Equipment setup and current monitoring of stations operations are carried out by the RI «MAO» using remote access to station computers via the Internet. Monthly reports on the number of meteor events recorded by each station are posted on the site of Radio Meteor Observation Bulletin (RMOB). The article presents the results, obtained by the network in 2017—2019, confirming a correspondence of daily variations in the number of meteors registered by network stations, to the known dependence (observation of meteors in the apex and antapex), as well as a correspondence between the expected characteristics (in time and intensity) of three meteor showers (Perseids, Geminids and Quadrantids) and that had been obtained by the network. Recommendations are also given in the article for additional research aimed at achieving the main goal, namely, expanding information about meteor phenomena, including the estimating of kinematic parameters (velocities, radiants) of meteoroids and their relationship with potentially hazardous asteroids.

Teacher. Mentor. Dissertation committee member. Advocate. Colleague. Friend. These are the many roles that Ed Branigan filled in my life over the eleven-plus years I was privileged to know him. However, merely listing these roles does not really do justice to his impact on me, because it leaves out the kindness, generosity, wit, and enthusiasm that he always had in store for me in all of our interactions, be they post-lecture dinners together in Santa Barbara, movie marathons at his house in Oak Park, California, or, as was more and more common over the last few years, e-mail messages.

MARTINS, J. A.ASSESSMENT OF AREA IRRIGATED BY CENTER PIVOT IN STATE OF RIO GRANDE DO SUL  2 ABSTRACT The aim of this study was to identify and quantify the areas irrigated by center pivot in the state of Rio Grande do Sul, for watersheds and municipalities. The areas irrigated by central pivots were digitized by visual identification based on the mosaic formed by images of Landsat 8 OLI/TIRS inserted in the Google Earth platform and survey data base center pivots in Brazil in 2013 conducted by (EMBRAPA/ANA). The mapping period used considered images available until March 2015. 1,753 center pivots were identified, occupying an irrigated area of 111,122,9 ha, and with average size of 63.66 ha. Around 84.04% of the center pivots are concentrated in the basin of the High Jacuí River (21.5%), Ijuí River (19.3%), Piratinim River (15.4%), Turvo, Santa Rosa and Santo Cristo Rivers ( 14.4%) Ibicuí River (8.4%), and Várzea River (5.7%). The municipalities with the highest areas occupied by pivots occur in Cruz Alta (129 pivots, 9050.05 ha), São Miguel das Missões (76 pivots, 5433.5 ha), Santo Augusto (85 pivots, 5353.54 ha), Santa Barbara do Sul (78 pivots, 5333.29 ha) and São Borja (62 pivots, 4560.8 ha). Keywords:  irrigated agriculture, watersheds, water resources

Electronic Networking Technologies (ENT) have only begun to make inroads into the construction industry practice. ENT provide unparalleled opportunities for the construction industry to introduce new and innovative way of processing information. These opportunities also present a number of challenges in terms of how to plan for and implement ENT services. There is a significant potential for large benefits from the correctly developed and applied ENT solutions for construction projects activities. This paper presents an assessment model for determining utility of various ENT services and the optimal configuration of ENT services for D/B projects. Web and FTP services were included in the ENT configuration as the tools to support all activities that require information retrieval. E-mail, list server, video conferencing, and remote access services were included in the ENT configuration as communication tools. An implementation scenario of the utility assessment model and a discussion on issues that should be considered in implementing ENT services in construction are presented.

Gambling has seen a significant increase in Italy in the last 10 years and has rapidly become a public health issue, and for these reasons the first National Helpline for Problem Gambling (GR-Helpline) has been established. The aims of this study are to describe the GR-Helpline users’ characteristics and to compare the prevalence rates of the users with those of moderate-risk/problematic gamblers obtained from the national survey (IPSAD 2010-2011). Statistical analysis was performed on data obtained from the counselling sessions (phone/e-mail/chat) carried out on 5,805 users (57.5% gamblers; 42.5% families/friends). This confirms that the problems related to gambling concern not only the gamblers but also their families and friends. Significant differences were found between gamblers and families/friends involving gender (74% of gamblers were male; 76.9% of families/friends were female), as well as age-classes and geographical area. Female gamblers had a higher mean age (47.3 versus 40.2 years) and preferred nonstrategy-based games. Prevalence rates of GR-Helpline users and of moderate risk/problematic gamblers were correlated (Rho = 0.58;p=0.0113). The results highlight the fact that remote access to counselling can be an effective means of promoting treatment for problem gamblers who do not otherwise appeal directly for services.
