This paper presents the methods for estimating automotive alternator’s back electromotive forces without a direct mechanical sensor of the rotor position. The design approach combines the merits of the sliding mode observer technique with the basics of a conventional observer. It is shown that the back electromotive forces may be observed based on system’s phase current model by sensing only electrical variables of the synchronous rectifier. Experimental results are presented for validation of the proposed observation algorithms. [S0022-0434(00)01404-0]

This paper discusses the post stage power supply circuit’s structure of electronic appliances such as laptops, desktops, mobile phones and digital cameras, which are commonly used in office. The advantages and feasibilities of DC power supply’s substitution for AC are analyzed. On this basis, a DC power supply system consists of photovoltaic cells, batteries, AC/DC modules, DC/AC modules as well as DC loads is brought forward. The main power supply unit, photovoltaic cells, connects the DC bus through a DC regulator circuit. The bus voltage can be maintained stable by real-time adjustment of photovoltaic cells’ output power. The battery module connects the DC bus through a bidirectional Boost-Buck circuit. The charges and discharges of batteries can be real-time controlled according to the bus voltage level. The AC/DC module connects the DC bus as a backup, which can real-time detect the bus voltage to determine whether to start. The DC/AC module can supply power to ordinary AC loads and the DC loads are usually powered from the bus through DC/DC converters.

Abstract In order to study the interaction among the traction power supply, the train group and the operation dispatching of urban rail transit, a coupling simulation system of power supply system, trains and dispatching management is constructed. In order to solve the problems of different timescales and difficult cooperation operation for related subsystems, a multi-bus distributed real-time network architecture based on hierarchical management of communication data is established, and simulation management software is developed to facilitate the free expansion of the simulation system. Meanwhile, the track line, train operation and other large timescale subsystems are realized by the pure digital simulation. And the time-sensitive subsystems, such as train traction system, braking system, auxiliary power supply system and network system etc., are built by the semi-physical simulation. In this article, the system structure and the main implementation principle of each simulation subsystem are given in detail, and the system is tested and verified at the end. The results show that the simulation system can meet the expected requirements.

AC steel arc furnaces are the most powerful units connected to the electrical grid, the operating mode of which is dynamic, asymmetrical and non-linear. That is why these furnaces cause the entire possible range of negative effects on the quality of electricity in the grid, in particular, fluctuations, asymmetry and non-sinusoidal voltage.Known proposals for improving the electromagnetic compatibility of electric arc furnaces are mainly focused on eliminating the consequences of their ne­gative impact on the power grid.The proposed approach and the corresponding technical solution are aimed at reducing the level of generation of a negative factor and at the same time reduce fluctuations, asymmetry and non-sinusoidal voltage. This result is obtained due to the fact that the proposed solution takes into account the peculiari­ties of the range of modes natural for arc furnaces. Optimal for such consumers is the use of a constant current power supply system I=const in the range of modes from operational short circuit to maximum load and the system U=const in the whole other range of modes. The implementation of such a system is carried out on the basis of a resonant converter «constant current – constant voltage».Studies have found that the use of such a power supply system, in comparison with the traditional circuit, makes it possible to reduce the non-sinusoidal voltage in a low-power grid from 3.2 % to 2.1 % and the unbalance coefficient from 3.66 to 1.35 %. Previously published data on a significant reduction in voltage fluctuations was also confirmed.The positive effect of such a system on the energy performance of the furnace itself is shown, manifes­ted in an increase in the arc power by 12.5 %, and the electrical efficiency by 5.1 %. This improves the productivity and efficiency of electric arc furnaces

The development of all kinds of spacecrafts is much smaller and more intelligent, integration increased constantly, one satellite can accomplish more and more expectant missions by using plenty of loads. As a result, higher power, higher reliability and much smarter power distribution system is needed to satisfy the growing quantity of loads. This paper presents the power supply system which characterized by loads observation real time, software and hardware combinational over current protection, bus communication with on board computer, the system has been validated in project and the conclusion has been proved accuracy and reliability.
