The internet of things is everywhere. It is an emerging and wide scope of study. Every day there is a new addition to this technology. It is simply defined as a network over which a collection of things communicate with each other using internet as a medium of communication. It is also sharing information with each other for the ease, welfare, and convenience of human beings. It makes human life easier. About one trillion devices are expected to connect with this technology in the upcoming future (most probably in 2025). Each and every year its popularity increases. It makes smart health; provides more safety, comfort, and convenience; and also increases wisdom. IoT is one of the platforms of today's smart city and smart energy management systems. This chapter explores IoT technologies and applications.

Aiming at the lagging for the monitoring of warehouse and lacking the intelligence, an automated warehouse monitoring system is designed using the internet of things, which may be used to monitor the temperature, humidity, and case of fire in the warehouse simultaneously. The temperature and humidity sensor SHT10 is implemented as the detector of the temperature and humidity, the flame sensor R2868 and the ionic smoke transducer HIS-07 are implemented as the detector of smoke and flame to find the fire. These data are sent to the computer in the manager center through Zigbee technology and the computer will process and analyze them. When the fire occurs, this system can extinguish the fire and call the manager or 119 automatically. The experiments have been performed, and it is shown that the performance of system is reliable, which has the practical value.

The Internet of Things (IoT) has dominated the digital world by enabling thousands of physical devices to communicate with each other and share useful data over the Internet. With use cases spanning every sphere of modern life, the IoT is all set to revolutionize the traveling sector by extending services associated with safety, security, surveillance, tracking, comfort, and a lot more. This paper presents the design and implementation of a prototype Easy-Weigh-Out, based on the principles of the IoT which enables a user to run Android-based mobile application and view the weight of luggage and track its location without any contact with it. The hardware of the system is built around Arduino UNO microcontroller which interfaces with a load cell (20 kg) via A/D converter and a NEO-6M Global Positioning System (GPS) module for tracking of the bag. The system uploads data to a Cloud server using ESP8266 Wi-Fi module. Our results show the real-time weight and tracking of the bag at a click of a button as well as long-term data logging.
