In several biomedical domains, it would be interesting to monitor subjects over night time using wearable motion sensors and trigger an alarm if a specific movement has been detected by processing the accelerometer readings. In this paper, the authors describe an innovative architecture for such an alarm system in the context of epilepsy monitoring. The main ingredients of the proposed system are wireless motion sensors, a radio-frequency transceiver linked to an Ethernet gateway and an acquisition server that incorporates real-time detection method. This motion analysis system is further integrated in the dataflow of an existing medicalized alarm system and an event is sent to healthcare professionals every time a seizure is detected by the expert system. The EPIMOUV system has been evaluated, during a 6-month period, in a specialized institution with epilepsy pharmaco-resistant residents.

When several adjacent foundation pits are excavated simultaneously and alternately, the foundation pit group has the interactions which will aggravate the excavation-induced adverse impact on surrounding environment. However, due to the massive construction information and monitoring data during excavation, the effect of interactions on performance of the foundation pits is hardly examined. In this study, a digital system is developed to manage the construction information and monitoring data of the foundation pit group. On the one hand, a visualization management system based on Autodesk Revit is developed to record information such as geometry information, excavation stages, and instrument layout. The complex construction information can be inquired dynamically. On the other hand, a dynamic and synchronous analysis system is developed based on SQL Server external database, Visio, and Excel software. The SQL Server software is capable to facilitate data classification and standardization management. The excavation process and monitoring data are fused through the secondary development of Visio and Excel software to help visualize, respectively. The developed system is applied to the foundation pit group of Shanghai World Expo Project. The lateral deflection of diaphragm walls is investigated and the rebound phenomenon of diaphragm wall is interpreted. It confirms that the developed system can improve the information management so that the deformation behavior of the foundation pit group can be analyzed efficiently.

Running in safe and stable status is a core issue of gas valve. An effective method was proposed in this paper to solve the problem of gas valve monitoring and control. The information obtaining and analysis system of gas valve were developed based on visual studio 2005 and sql sever 2005. Multiple functions such as data querying, information management, data statistics and report generation are included in this system. More important, the gas valve working status and key parameters can be monitored and controlled in real-time. While detecting state parameters exceeding the normal range, alarm will be sound and the response people’s cell will be called.

AbstractEnsuring accordance with principles of healthcare ethics requires improved communication of pathogen genomic data. This could include educating healthcare professionals in communicating pathogen genomic information to individuals, developing ethical frameworks for reporting pathogen genomic results to individuals, responsible media reporting guidelines, and counselling for individuals (‘pathogen genetic counselling’).
