The fast-acting algorithms of exposure and invariant authentication of transients in the lines of electricity transmission as load surge, short circuits and start of powerful electric engines were developed; based on that, the functions of relay defense device of high-voltage lines of electricity transmission were determined. The given structure of small, microelectronic fast-acting device of relay defense is with the extended functional possibilities of recognition of load surge and defense of high-voltage lines of electricity transmission from short circuits, the syntax of his functions was presented. This device can be used for load surge recognition and short circuits, invariant to the size of increase currents in the separate phases of electric lines. It allowed successful application of the developed method and device for simultaneous recognition of load surge, short circuits and starting of powerful electric engines. The information technology of designing structural solutions of relay protection special processor for high-voltage electricity transmission lines was presented.

Parameters of the subminiature electromagnetic relays used as output elements in microprocessor relay protection, do not correspond to technical specifications on these relay protection. The reasons of this discrepancy are analyzed. Contradictions and discrepancies of the international standards in this area are considered. It is shown, that absence of clearness in standards and mistakes in technical specifications of manufacturers of microprocessor protection do not allow estimating correctly technical parameters and lead to decrease in reliability of relay protection.

As the voltage class and transmission capacity of power grid is increasing, the operating environment of JiuAn substation, which is one of the power supply sources of Ultra-High Voltage (UHV) transmission line, becomes more complex. A model of JiuAn substation and its complicated power supply environment is built using the power system software PSCAD/EMTDC, the parameters under typical kinds of fault are simulated, and MATLAB software is used to acquire relay protection feature from the simulation results. Based on the work above, relay protection security of JiuAn Substation under complex power transmission environment is analyzed, which will provide guidance for the substation operation.

This paper established a 500kV microcomputer protection model with EFT/B generator. The generator was built based on the mechanism of arc forming and distinguishing when cutting off the no-load transmission line. The according parameters were set by the arc estimating formula and test data. The simulations shows that the traditional disincentive measure is limited for high voltage line and the arithmetic is still sensitive to the disturbance and made the relay set false operation. A comprehensive measure is put forward and tested by the microcomputer protection arithmetic.

Superconducting fault current limiter (SFCL) is an innovative method for reducing the level of short-circuit currents in high-voltage electrical networks. This reduces the number of points of separation of the electrical network in conditions of short-circuit current limitation and thereby increases the network capacity and reliability of power supply to consumers. At the same time, the development of such devices poses new challenges for power engineers related to the integration of this equipment into the existing power system. The article discusses the process of implementation and pilot operation of the SFCT 220 kV pilot project (produced by CJSC “SuperOx”) at the 220/20 kV “Mnevniki” high-voltage substation in Moscow. The project required an extensive set of scientific studies and tests to confirm the characteristics of new devices and the possibility of their use in Russian power systems, the use of digital modeling technologies to test the operability of relay protection devices, as well as the development of new methodological documents for calculating the short-circuit current and relay protection parameters. As a result of the work, SFCT was switched on at the 220/20 kV “Mnevniki” substation at the end of 2019. The subsequent operation of the SFCT in 2019-2020 fully confirmed the declared characteristics of the device and the correctness of the selected technical solutions. The article is devoted to the features of the process of integrating a new device into the existing power system, the main technical solutions, the results of testing and operation of the device, as well as possible prospects for the development of SFCT technology.
