<p>This paper presents a Model Predictive Direct Power Control (MPDPC) strategy for a grid-connected inverter used in a photovoltaic system, as found in many distributed generating installations. The controller uses a system model to predict the system behavior at each sampling instant. Using a cost function, the voltage vector with least power ripple is generated. The resultant voltage vector is applied during the next sampling period which gives flexible power regulation. The effectiveness of the proposed MPDPC strategy is verified using MATLAB/ SIMULINK. </p>

the inverter is one of the key technologies in PV system. It transforms the DC power output by the PV panel to AC power that the grid needs. The main technologies of the inverter are the circuit topology and the control tactic. The circuit topologies of inverter including the frequency isolated PV grid-connected inverters, the high-frequency isolated PV grid-connected inverter, the single-stage non-isolated PV grid-connect inverter and the multi-level non-isolated PV grid-connected inverter. The control tactics including the voltage oriented control (VOC), the voltage-based direct power control (V-DPC), the virtual-flux oriented control (VFOC) and the virtual-flux based direct power control (VF-DPC).

Based on the dynamic mathematical model of three-phase grid-connected inverter, two kinds of control strategies are compared, one is double closed loop control based on grid voltage orientation theory, the other is direct power control. According to the mathematical model of two-phase rotating coordinates of the inverter, in double closed loop control theory, the purpose of control of the inverter by decoupling control and PI control is achieved. From the point of energy on direct power control system, the active, inactive power of output AC of inverter are calculated ,and suitable space voltage vector was selected after comparing with the given values to realize the direct control of the power set point. The basic theory of two control strategies and implementation method are included, and the simulation model was established based on MATLAB/Simulink. And their simulation results, characteristics of two kinds of control methods were compared through simulation data analysis. On the basic of results, the direct power control is better than the double closed loop control.
