<p>In these days, electric vehicles are enthusiastically researched as a countermeasure to air pollution, although these do not have practicality compared to gasoline-powered vehicles. The aim of this study is to transport energy wirelessly and efficiently to an electric vehicle. To accomplish this, we focused on frequency of an alternating current (AC) power supply, and suggested a method which determined the value of it constantly. In particular, a wireless power transfer circuit and a lithium-ion battery in an electric vehicle were expressed with an equivalent circuit, and efficiency of energy transfer was calculated. Furthermore, the optimal frequency which maximizes efficiency was found, and the behavior of voltage was demonstrated on a secondary circuit. Finally, we could obtain the larger electromotive force at the secondary inductor than an input voltage.</p>

This paper presents a methodology for rapid generation of synthetic transmission networks and uses it to investigate how a transmission distance-based value loss affects the overall grid power flow. The networks are created with a graph theory-based method and compared to existing energy systems. The power production is located on these synthetic networks by solving a facility location optimization problem with variable distance-based value losses. Next, AC power flow is computed for a snapshot of each network using the Newton–Raphson method and the transmission grid power flow is analyzed. The presented method enables rapid analysis of several grid topologies and offers a way to compare the effects of production incentives and renewable energy policies in different network conditions.

Multi-level inverters (MLI) are power electronic converters that convert DC power to AC power with high power-quality of output voltage waveforms. These MLI are the main streamline converters for integrating dc power of EV with microgrids. Thus, the recent interest of researchers is to investigate the MLI with a lower number of active and passive switch counts which could integrate the DC power of EV to the microgrid with the boosting ability. This chapter discusses various topologies of MLI for the integration of the DC power of EV to the grid for vehicle-to-grid (V2G) applications. MLI converts DC power to AC power with high quality of output voltage waveform. Thus, the recent interest of researchers is to investigate the MLI with a lower number of active and passive switch counts which could integrate the DC power of EV to the microgrid. Also, MLI must be capable of boosting the voltage level to meet the grid requirements. The aim of this chapter is to discuss the various topologies of MLI for the integration of DC power of EV to the grid for vehicle-to-grid (V2G) applications.

Recent research has focused on sustainable development and renewable energy resources, thus motivating nonconventional cutting-edge technology development. Multilevel inverters are cost-efficient devices with IGBT switches that can be used in ac power applications with reduced harmonics. They are widely used in the power electronics industry. However, under extreme stress, the IGBT switches can experience a fault, which can lead to undesirable operation. There is a need for a reliable system for detecting switch faults. This paper proposes a signal processing method to detect open-circuit problems in IGBT switches. Relative wavelet energy has been used as a feature for a machine learning algorithm to diagnose and classify the faulted switches. The switching sequence can be altered to restore a healthy output voltage. Inverter faults have been diagnosed by using support vector machine (SVM) and decision tree (DT), and an ensemble model based on decision tree (DT) and XG boost algorithm was developed, which yielded 92%, 88%, and 94.12% accuracy, respectively.

Pulse Width Modulation (PWM) strategies are crucial for controlling DC–AC power converters. In particular, transformerless inverters require specific PWM techniques to improve efficiency and to deal with leakage ground current issues. In this paper, three hybrid PWM methods are proposed for a DCM-232 three-phase topology. These methods are based on the concepts of carrier-based PWM and space vector modulation. Calculations of time intervals for active and null vectors are performed in a conventional way, and the resulting waveforms are compared with a carrier signal. The digital signals obtained are processed using Boolean functions, generating ten signals to control the DCM-232 three-phase inverter. The performance of the three proposed PWM methods is evaluated considering the reduction in leakage ground current and efficiency. The proposed modulation techniques have relevant performances complying with international standards, which make them suitable for transformerless three-phase photovoltaic (PV) inverter markets. To validate the proposed hybrid PWM strategies, numerical simulations and experimental tests were performed.

Gas and oil pipelines are widely used to supply customers. They are often laid in parallel with high voltage power lines, sharing right of way. When the pipeline is located near overhead high-voltage power, corrosion caused by induced voltages from AC power lines can occur in utility pipelines. Therefore, the calculation of induced voltage is always required for both interference and maintenance workers as well as pipeline facility safety. For parallel distribution lines, the calculation method for the induced voltage is not suitable due to the excessive error caused by using the screening factors of the neutral current. For a more practical analysis of the induced voltage, a new analysis is needed using the actual neutral current and which also considers the overhead ground conductor and the neutral conductor. This paper analyzed the induced voltage from a parallel distribution system using Carson’s formula and vector analysis. Simulation analysis results are verified by separate Electromagnetic Transient Program (EMTP) simulation.

The performance status of a grid-connected photovoltaic (GCPV) system is denoted by performance indices, namely performance ratio, capacity factor, and even through power acceptance ratio (AR), as documented in Malaysia Standard (MS) procedures for acceptance test of GCPV testing and commissioning (TNC). Even though AR analysis can be either on the DC or AC side, the MS TNC procedures implemented analysis on the AC side. Therefore, the question arises whether there is any significant difference when using AC AR analysis compared to DC AR analysis in evaluating the system performance. Thus, this paper evaluates the differences between applying DC AR analysis and AC AR analysis in accessing the performance of the ten kWp GCPV system in Malaysia. The AR analytical analysis employed the 2019 one-year historical data of solar irradiance, module temperature, DC power, and AC power. The results demonstrated that the monthly AC AR were consistently lower than DC AR with a percentage difference of approximately 3%. The percentage discrepancy was due to the variation of actual inverter efficiencies compared to the declared constant value by the manufacturer used in the AR prediction model. These findings have verified a significant difference between DC AR analysis and AC AR analysis. Most importantly, this study has highlighted the significance of AC AR analysis compared to DC AR analysis as a tool to evaluate GCPV system performance because AC AR has taken an additional factor into consideration, which is the inverter efficiency variation.
