SummaryOxides of the Cu-Fe-O system prepared by solid-state reaction methods have been investigated by X-ray, Mössbauer effect, and analytical chemical techniques. In agreement with most previous investigations of this system, it is found that CuFeO2 exists as a stable compound, and that the mineral delafossite has essentially this composition. These results are in disagreement with those of Buist, Gadalla, and White who propose that delafossite has an approximate composition Cu6Fe3O7 instead of CuFeO2. In fact, a compound of composition Cu6F3O7 could not be prepared. The Mössbauer isomer shift provides confirmation that the iron in CuFeO2 is trivalent.

Abstract Quality and performance of a detection system are the crucial parameters in all nuclear physics experiments. This system serves as a source of all signals and noises to be processed. Better performance, higher amplification and lower noises occurrence simplify subsequent signal analysis. In the field of Mössbauer spectroscopy, the spectrum quality and Mössbauer effect are crucial parameters which are affected especially by the quality of the detection system. These parameters were evaluated for different types of a detection setup. Finally an improvement of the spectrum quality by 15% and Mössbauer effect by 7% has been achieved for the natural iron reference absorber measurement in comparison with previous version of the detection system.

In this article, the relevance is the physical phenomenon of the "Mössbauer effect", its application and practical significance for science. The article deals with resonant absorptions of gamma radiation, the history of the discovery of this effect and the experiments conducted by the scientist. The concepts of the decay of the nucleus, the energy of the excited state, and the measurement of energy using this effect are considered. The Mossbauer Effect is an example of a physical phenomenon that has found application in many fields of science: chemistry, nuclear physics, solid-state physics, etc. This work is intended to explain the essence of the Mössbauer effect and to show that the discovery of this effect was of great fundamental and practical importance for science as a whole.
