Earlier, in a nanosecond vacuum discharge (NVD) with a deuterated Pd anode, the appearance of DD neutrons was observed not only at the well-studied quasi-stationary stage, where a virtual cathode (VC) appears in the interelectrode space, but also at the very initial stage of the discharge. An analysis of the experiment shows that the autoelectron beam can play the role of a kind of trigger for starting DD syntheses processes on the surface or in the bulk of the Pd anode, but its mechanism at the initial stage of the discharge remained unclear. In this work, we performed PiC modeling of the possible partial penetration of a beam of autoelectrons into hollow anode Pd tubes. This leads to the formation of very small short-lived VCs inside individual Pd tubes, where, starting from a current of 100 A, DD microsynthesis is possible. It is shown that in devices with oscillating ions the favorable scaling of the DD fusion power, which increases with decreasing VC radius, can be retained up to rVC  0.02 cm.

Carbon nanotubes (CNTs) and graphene are extensively studied materials in the field of sensing technology and other electronic devices due to their better functional and structural properties. Additionally, more attention is given to utilize these materials as a filler to reinforce the properties of other materials. However, the role of weight percentage of CNTs in the piezoresistive properties of these materials has not been reported yet. In this work, CNT-graphene composite-based piezoresistive pressure samples in the form of pellets with different weight percentages of CNTs were fabricated and characterized. All the samples exhibit a decrease in the direct current (DC) resistance with the increase in external uniaxial applied pressure from 0 to 74.8 kNm−2. However, under the same external uniaxial applied pressure, the DC resistance exhibit more decrease as the weight percentage of the CNTs increase in the composites.

Abstract In this work, we study the impacts of different types of strain relief layer (SRL) on dynamic on-resistance (Ron) degradation of GaN power devices on Si by back-gate ramping and vertical leakage measurement. Our study reveals that the SRL has important effects on the dynamic Ron. Compared with step-graded AlGaN SRL, the superlattice SRL possesses much more energy barriers, which can more effectively block the leakage of holes from GaN buffer and the injection of electrons from Si substrate. Enhancing the carrier blocking ability of SRL could contribute to the suppression of dynamic Ron degradation.

AbstractWhitehouse adapts insights from evolutionary anthropology to interpret extreme self-sacrifice through the concept of identity fusion. The model neglects the role of normative systems in shaping behaviors, especially in relation to violent extremism. In peaceful groups, increasing fusion will actually decrease extremism. Groups collectively appraise threats and opportunities, actively debate action options, and rarely choose violence toward self or others.
