Abstract As to product design itself has quite complexity and many domain influence factors are integrated in concurrent design (CD), conflict phenomena exists in any process of carrying out CD. Conflict elimination is an important key to carrying out CD effectively. Conflict usually relates to many members in multifunction group of CD. Negotiation that is a process of multiple iteration and repeated alternation is utilized in CD conflict elimination. Many objects and constraints are considered in the process of negotiation and it is very hard to have no problem in the process of calculation, reasoning, evaluation and decisionmaking. As to the updating error is a tracing process and a lot of work done before is needed to repeat, efficiency of conflict elimination is very low. In this paper, a method of conflict elimination of product CD based on blackboard model is put forward. Design conflict producing, system and mechanism of conflict elimination based on blackboard model are analyzed and described. It takes gear CD conflict elimination as an example to illustrate the concrete application of the method and system.

Abstract Conventional product development process employs a design-build-break philosophy. The sequentially executed product development process often results in a prolonged lead-time and an elevated product cost. The proposed concurrent design and manufacturing (CDM) process employs physics-based computational methods together with computer graphics technique for product design. This proposed approach employs Virtual Prototyping (VP) technology to support a cross-functional team analyzing product performance, reliability, and manufacturing cost early in the product development stage; and conducting quantitative trade-off for design decision making. Physical prototypes of the product design are then produced using Rapid Prototyping (RP) technique primarily for design verification purposes. The proposed CDM approach holds potential for shortening the overall product development cycle, improving product quality, and reducing product cost. A software tool environment that supports CDM for mechanical systems is being built at the Concurrent Design and Manufacturing Research Laboratory (http://cdm.ou.edu) at the University of Oklahoma. A snap shot of the environment is illustrated using a two-stroke engine example. This paper presents three unique concepts and methods for product development: (i) bringing product performance, quality, and manufacturing cost together in early design stage for design considerations, (ii) supporting design decision-making through a quantitative approach, and (iii) incorporating rapid prototyping for design verification through physical prototypes.

The study of Dong ethnic cultural resources provides the experience basis and method path for the designing and development of cultural and creative products with Dong ethnic-cultural characteristics. In the research, first of all, the Dong culture is mainly taken as the core and the Dong cultural resources are classified. Secondly, it studies the attributes of cultural and creative products and designs and combs the cultural and creative products of Dong nationality. Furthermore, the creative product design model of Dong ethnic culture is constructed, and eye tracking technology is taken as an example to accurately extract the cultural identification characteristics of cultural materials through modern science and technology, and the specific case design is carried out. Through the excavation, arrangement, and induction of Dong ethnic cultural resources, the attributes of cultural and creative products are analyzed, and the design model is constructed to provide ideas for the design of Dong ethnic cultural and creative products, which is conducive to enhancing the value of Dong ethnic culture and cultural and creative products and provides references for the cultural development of other ethnic minorities.
