Abstract This paper describes a method for evaluating proposed part tolerancing plans for injected molded, die cast, and stamped parts from a manufacturability perspective. Before exact dimensions are established (the configuration stage), a qualitative evaluation of proposed designs enables designers to identify features and tolerance specifications that may be difficult to achieve. After dimensions are established (parametric stage), assigned tolerance values are evaluated considering materials and associated configuration issues. Examples in the use of the method are included.
