Autotuning of A PID Controller for an Active Vibration Suppression Device for the Treatment of Essential Tremor

Essential Tremor (ET) is a motion disorder which affects as many as one in 20-25 adults over the age of 40 [1]. Leblanc [2] proposed a device which consists of four linear actuators attached to a patient's wrist in an effort to actively suppress the tremor. This paper demonstrates experimentally a simplified version of that device. The system was tested on a stand designed to simulate an adult lower arm with a tremor in the horizontal plane. A single linear inertial actuator was attached to the "wrist" of the test stand. An accelerometer attached on the opposite side of the arm provided feedback to the controller. This paper demonstrates this system operating to produce 20%-60% vibration reduction in the 6-13 Hz bandwidth.

Vibration is a significant factor that influences the performance of the long-range ultra-precise positioning system. Due to the intense nonlinearity and parameter uncertainties, it is difficult to eliminate the vibration by using a conventional PID controller. In this paper, the intelligent PID controller based on BP neural network with the ability of self-learning and strong robustness is introduced into the positioning system. Simulation and experiment are conducted and the results show that the vibration is effectively suppressed and the positioning accuracy has reached within 5.8nm.

In article possibility of active suppression of vibrations of elements of a design of agricultural machinery is investigated. It is shown that it is possible to achieve the effective suppression of vibrations without the use of complex and expensive technical solutions, complex and time-consuming calculations and without conducting many experiments. The results of experimental research into active vibration suppression are covered.
