Dispersed bisaccate pollen grains of Scutasporites nanuki were studied by means of LM, SEM and TEM. Sacci ultrastructure of these pollen grains was rather peculiar. Sacci were like a thin fi lmy fringe attached to the central body near the equator. They were fi lled with sporopollenin elements of irregular shape and various dimensions with equally various cavities between them. Such an ultrastructure is called as spongy. The morphology and ultrastructure of S. nanuki is discussed in the context of the evolution of early conifers.

During the excavations of Messrs. Hogarth Grenfell and Hunt for the Egypt Exploration Fund in the winter of 1895–6 on the site of Karanis (Kom Ushim) in the Fayum, a considerable number of clay-sealings were found, mainly in the cellars of the Roman houses. These were recently put in my hands for investigation and offer some interesting material. The sealings have evidently come from various kinds of articles: in many instances the clay is too much broken for any determination of the shape which it had taken to be possible; but among the better preserved pieces are examples from the mouths of bottles, some of which have been squeezed down into the neck like a cork, others placed over a linen covering, sometimes tied down with cord: others are from the flat sides of wooden boxes, often showing the marks of cord: others again from parcels of irregular shape, in some cases seemingly wrapped in papyrus. The common points of all are that they consist of lumps of Nile-mud, and that they have been impressed, while the clay was damp, with signets, which were presumably those of the merchants who forwarded the goods upon which the sealings were placed.

Aortic coarctation rarely occurs after an arterial switch operation for D-transposition of the great arteries with intact ventricular septum. We report the case of a neonate patient in whom aortic coarctation developed 28 days after an uncomplicated arterial switch operation. Preoperatively, the aorta was noted to have an irregular shape, but there was no pressure gradient across the lesion. The patient underwent successful reoperation to correct the coarctation. We hope that our report raises awareness of a rare early complication after arterial switch operation with intact ventricular septum, and the need to carefully monitor the aortic isthmus in patients who have aortic irregularities, even in the absence of a pressure gradient.

This Paper Discusses A Forensic Engineering Approach To The Analysis Of Falling Merchandise Incidents In Retail Warehouses. A Discussion Of The Engineering And Safety Analysis Of Two Personal Injury Incidents Caused By Falling Merchandise Is Included. The First Incident Involves A Fork-Lift Pallet That Held A Stack Of Lounge Chairs, Which Fell From An Overhead Shelf, Striking A Customer. The Stack Of Lounge Chairs Was An Irregular Shape That Was Longer And Narrower Than The Pallet. The Chairs Were Held Together With Stretch Wrap And Attached To The Pallet With x-Bracing Using Cords Made Of Twisted Stretch Wrap. The Placement Of The Pallet In The Overhead Shelf, The Attachment Of The Chairs To The Pallet, And Various Safety Policies And Procedures Are Analyzed. Various Analyses To Determine The Properties Of Stretch Wrap Were Performed. A Scale Model Was Constructed To Assist With The Analysis. The Second Incident Involves A Rack Of Vertically Stacked Lumber That Fell Forward Striking A Customer After He Had Removed One Or Two Boards From The Rack And Placed Them On A Cart. The Boards, The Stacking System, And The Restraint System Are Analyzed. A Video Re-Enactment Was Prepared To Illustrate How The Boards Fell.
