The quality of the water and bottom sediments of the Rybinsk Reservoir, on the adjacent territory of which the Cherepovetskiy Metallurgical Plant PJSC “Severstal” is located, which has an adverse effect on the state of the water body is investigated. The pollution of water and bottom sediments by the metallurgical plant in the northern part of the Rybinsk reservoir was assessed in connection with the planned construction of a pulp and paper mill (PPM) at the site of the study.

В статье рассматриваются вопросы накопления тяжелых металлов в донных отложениях реки Волги в пределах Тверской области. Анализируются основные источники загрязняющих веществ. Дается характеристика концентраций тяжелых металлов в воде и донных отложениях. Приводится эколого-геохимическая оценка состояния донных грунтов Верхней Волги и Иваньковского водохранилища. The article deals with the accumulation of heavy metals in the bottom sediments of the Volga River within the Tver region. The main sources of pollutants are analyzed. The characteristics of the concentrations of heavy metals in water and bottom sediments are given. An ecological and geochemical assessment of the state of bottom soils of the Upper Volga and Ivankovskoye reservoir is given.

This paper addresses the taxonomy and biogeography of the recently described diatom genus Petroplacus Pomazkina, Rodionova, Sherbakova & D.M. Williams and relates new information regarding the occurrence of Navicula platystoma var. pantocsekii Wislouch & Kolbe in deep-water benthos of the Rybinsk reservoir, the Upper Volga Region. The variety clearly differs from already established Petroplacus species in valve shape, thus it was transferred to this genus at the specific rank, Petroplacus pantocsekii comb. & stat. nov.
