Two experimental techniques have been developed at GANIL using resonant elastic and inelastic scattering reactions in inverse kinematics. These techniques were used to study the structure of unstable nuclei. A brief description of the methods is presented through two examples of application in astrophysics. Moreover, new ideas and simple questions are put forward: what happens in the low energy tail of unbound nuclei ground state resonances?

A brief summary of the first elastic and inelastic scattering results obtained at the European low-energy antiproton ring facility is presented. The constraints thereby put on the antiproton–nucleus interaction are discussed, and the unique features of the antiproton as a probe of the nucleus are pointed out. In particular, it is stressed that the near blackness of the nucleus to antiprotons could be exploited in the [Formula: see text] reaction to specific states excited mainly by the long-range part of the nucleon–antinucleon interaction. The spin–isospin parts of the interaction as well as some isovector nuclear excitations could thus be studied.
