Three new species of Peltaea are described from the cerrado of Brazil: P. brasiliana from Distrito Federal, P. rupestris from the state of Minas Gerais and P. stellata from the state of Tocantins. Illustrations, comments on morphology, taxonomic relationships, and phenology are provided, as well as assessments of conservation status of the new species.

A new species, Calea arachnoidea, which belongs to Calea sect. Meyeria, is hereby described and illustrated. This species occurs in the Serra Negra region, located in the southern portion of the “Zona da Mata” in the state of Minas Gerais, southeastern Brazil. Calea arachnoidea resembles C. quadrifolia, C. heteropappa and C. semirii, and its relationships with these species are discussed and an identification key for the species of C. sect. Meyeria in the state of Minas Gerais is provided. Additionally, photographs, a distribution map, comments about habitat and conservation status are provided.

Six species of Crenicichla, three of which are new, are recognized from the Atlantic coastal rivers of souhteastern Brazil from the state of Bahia south to the state of Rio Grande do Sul: C. mucuryna (upper rio Mucuri, Minas Gerais), C. lacustris (from the rio Paraíba do Sul north to the rio Buranhem, Bahia), C. iguapina, new species (rio Ribeira de Iguape), C. tingui, new species (from the rio Itapocu to the rio Nhundiaquara drainage), C. maculata, new species (lagoa dos Quadros, rio Maquiné, Rio Grande do Sul to rio Itapocu, Santa Catarina drainages), and Crenicichla punctata (laguna dos Patos basin). Crenicichla biocellata is a synonym of C. lacustris; and also a secondary homonym of Sparus biocellatus, a synonym of C. saxatilis. Crenicichla dorsocellata is also a synonym of C. lacustris.

Eight Brazilian Atlantic Rainforest species are described and illustrated: Calyptranthes santalucia, Eugenia barrana, E. culicina, E. lacistema, E. viscacea, Myrcia basicordata, M. monoclada and Myrciaria evanida. Calyptranthes santalucia, from the state of Espírito Santo, is related to C. brasiliensis, differing for its acute leaves and pauciflorous inflorescences; Eugenia barrana, from the states of Minas Gerais and Bahia, is related to E. chlorophylla, but has smaller leaves and larger flowers; Eugenia culicina, from the state of Pernambuco, is related to E. roseiflora, differing through the smaller petioles, adaxially sulcate lateral veins, pilose flowers and larger fruits; Eugenia lacistema, from Bahia, is related to E. platyphylla, differing by the inflorescences with lignified bracts and smaller pedicels;  Eugenia viscacea, from Bahia, is related to E. ellipsoidea, differing through the inflorescences with densely imbricate bracts and smaller pedicels; Myrcia basicordata, from Espírito Santo, is related to M. pubescens, but presents applanate glabrous twigs and glabrous and sessile leaves with cordate base; Myrcia monoclada, from Bahia, is related to M. riodocensis, but has larger leaves and pentamerous flowers, and Myrciaria evanida, from Espírito Santo and Minas Gerais, resembles M. floribunda, differing by the vanishing secondary veins and smaller flowers. The new species are also evaluated as to their conservation status according to IUCN criteria. Additionally, the synonymization of Eugenia apiocarpa under E. astringens and of Eugenia pleurantha under E. umbellata and the lectotypification of Eugenia ellipsoidea are proposed.

Abstract— Three new species of Justicia (Acanthaceae), J. montealegrensis, J. multiglandulosa, and J. paraensis from the Brazilian Amazon, discovered during the preparation of a taxonomic treatment of genus for the state of Pará, are herein described and illustrated. Their geographic distribution, habitat, preliminary conservation status, taxonomic comments, line drawings, photo plates, and comparison of diagnostic morphological characters with those of similar taxa are also provided.

Abstract— Piptolepis is an endemic genus of the Brazilian Central Plateau. It comprises 13 species, almost all of them microendemic and poorly collected. They are shrubs, subshrubs, or treelets, with leaves displayed in a typical pad-like sheath, the heads are solitary or organized in a pseudoglomerule, or rarely a syncephalium (second-order inflorescence), with weakly imbricate phyllaries. As a preliminary result of an ongoing taxonomic revision of Piptolepis, we hereby report three new species. P. corymbosa is similar to P. leptospermoides, while P. pilosa resembles P. ericoides, and Piptolepis procumbens is similar to P. campestris. These new species are described and illustrated, their taxonomic affinities are discussed, and the informal conservation status for each is assessed.

Two new species of Sida (Malvaceae) found in the state of Minas Gerais, southeastern Brazil are described and illustrated: S. oblonga and S. carrascoana, which belong to the sections Cordifoliae and Muticae, respectively. Both are compared to related species, and have their conservation status evaluated.

Eugenia asema, E. trichogyna, Myrcia altomontana, M. fria and M. macucana are described and illustrated, and the new combination Eugenia subglomerata, based on Myrtus subglomerata, is proposed. Eugenia asema, from the state of Rio de Janeiro, seems related to E. subavenia, but has glabrous shining blades and smaller flowers; E. trichogyna, also from Rio de Janeiro, is apparently close to E. pluriflora, but has wider blades and pilose flowers with unequal pairs of calyx lobes; Myrcia altomontana, from Espírito Santo, is related to M. neocambessedeana, but differs by its denser indumentum and shorter inflorescences; M. fria, also from Espírito Santo, is apparently related to Calyptranthes pauciflora but has glabrous flowers and larger inflorescences, and M. macucana, from the state of Minas Gerais, is apparently close to Calyptranthes anceps, from which it is distinguished by its markedly shorter inflorescences. Additionally, conservation status is assessed for the species described here.

AbstractA cladistic analysis of the Attacobiini spiders (Corinnidae, Corinninae) is made from 11 species in the tribe, plus two Corinninae outgroup species (Septentrinna yucatan and Falconina gracilis), scored for 70 characters. Attacobiini, Attacobius and a group composed by A. attarum Roewer, A. luederwaldti (Mello-Leitão) and A. nigripes (Mello-Leitão) are the best supported clades in the analysis. Six new Brazilian species are described: Attacobius blakei, A. tucurui and A. uiriri, from the state of Pará; A. lamellatus and A. kitae, from Tocantins and A. carranca, from Tocantins and Bahia. The known distribution ranges of A. attarum and A. luederwaldti are extended from Rio de Janeiro to Brasilia (Distrito Federal) and from São Paulo to Minas Gerais and Mato Grosso, respectively. A 10 percent KOH preparation of the male palp of A. carranca suggests that the Attacobiini tegular process is homologous to the median apophysis, which is putatively symplesiomorphic in Corinninae.

Three new species of Pleroma are described: Pleroma costatocalyx, P. kollmanniana and P. subsessilis. All three species are morphologically similar to Tibouchina heteromalla and related species, especially due to the shrubby habit, elongated inflorescences, flowers with purple petals, but white at their bases, antesepalous stamens with the connective covered with glandular trichomes, and by the short (ca. 4–5 mm long), curved style. All three species differ from T. heteromalla by the styles with trichomes (vs. glabrous in T. heteromalla). Pleroma costatocalyx also differs from T. heteromalla by the longitudinally costate hypanthium, P. kollmanniana by the strongly winged branches, bigger leaves, and shorter petioles, and P. subsessilis by the concolorous leaves and antepetalous stamens with glabrous connective and appendages. All new species grow in vegetation associated with inselbergs and are endemic to Espírito Santo state, despite the fact that one of them (P. costatocalyx) was collected very close to the border with Minas Gerais, where it probably occurs. We present descriptions, taxonomic comments, illustrations, and conservation status assignments for the new species.
