In the context of an ongoing taxonomic review of Adesmia subg. Adesmia ser. Bicolores, a new endangered species endemic to Rio Grande do Sul state, Brazil, is herein described. The new species present a long glandular ochraceous indumentum, flowers 10–15 mm long, and arilated seeds. Information about morphology, differences from closely related species, phenology, conservation status, and etymology are provided.

Abstract A new species of Baccharis L. sect. Caulopterae DC.(Asteraceae) from sandy soils and dunes on the coastal plain of Rio Grande do Sul state, Brazil, is presented: Baccharis dunensis A.A.Schneid. & G.Heiden. The new species is described, illustrated and compared to more closely related species. Additionally, B. burchelli Baker is reinstated, new synonyms are proposed for B. burchellii and B. crispa Spreng., and a lectotype is designated for B. regnellii Sch.Bip. ex Baker.

Pimpinella ibradiensis, an unusual new species found in the Toka Yayla (İbradı, Antalya) in southern Anatolia, is described and illustrated. Site conditions, synecology and conservation status of P. ibradiensis are considered. In light of the comparison with the other closely related four species, namely P. nephrophylla, P. flabellifolia, P. sintenisii and P. paucidentata, its similarity within the genus are discussed. P. ibradiensis is easly distinguished from its relatives by its white petals, presence of bracts and bracteoles, larger fruits (4–5.5 × 1–2 mm), and having serrulate basal leaves with 60–95 strongly cartilaginous teeth along margins. The geographical distribution of P. ibradiensis and closely related species are mapped and the identification key of those species is updated.

Two species of Glandularia from Rio Grande do Sul Brazilian state are described, G. rupestris V. Thode & Bordignon and G. sessilifolia V. Thode & Bordignon. Detailed morphological descriptions, geographical distribution, evaluation of their IUCN conservation status and photographs are presented. Comparison tables with morphologically similar species occurring in Rio Grande do Sul and an identification key to the species occurring in Brazil are also provided.

ABSTRACT Taxonomic and floristic studies in the state of Rio de Janeiro allowed the rediscovery of Miconia gigantea, an endemic species to the Atlantic Forest, until recently known only from the type specimen, collected over 100 years by A.F.M. Glaziou. We present an amended and detailed description of M. gigantea, providing characteristics of the flowers, fruits and seeds, in addition to illustrations, comments about taxonomic affinities with closely related species, the presently known distribution together with new occurrence records, and the conservation status.

A floristic survey of the Cactaceae family was carried out in the municipality of Santa Maria, Brazil, which is localized in the central region of Rio Grande do Sul state. The study was conducted between August 2017 and November 2018, during which time 14 species were recorded. Five species are on the endangered species list of Rio Grande do Sul. The threatened species are Echinopsis oxygona (Link) Zucc. Ex. Pfeiff. Otto, Parodia horstii (F. Ritter) N.P. Taylor, Parodia glaucina (F. Ritter), Hofacker M. Machado, Parodia linkii (Lehm.), R. Kiesling, and Parodia ottonis (Lehm.) N. P. Taylor. This paper presents a complete list of the species with reference to conservation status.

Schinus pampeana is a new species from Brazilian Pampa. The new species was tentatively included in Schinus sect. Terebinthifolia, and is morphologically most similar to Schinus lentiscifolia and S. weinmanniifolia. We present here a detailed morphological description, a geographical distribution map, IUCN conservation status assessment, ecological data, photographs, and a table of diagnostic characters of S. pampeana and the most similar species. Schinus pampeana increases the total number of Schinus to about 49 species, of which eleven are recorded in Brazil.

A striking new species of Begonia, B. joshii, is described from Amazonas Region, Peru. The new species is unusual among the South American members of the genus both in its combination of tuberous habit with peltate leaves and in living in a seasonally dry tropical forest environment. A phylogeny of this and closely related species is presented, and its sectional affiliation and IUCN conservation status are discussed. A key to the peltate Peruvian species of Begonia is provided.

Porophyllum spathulatum is described and illustrated. The new species is distinguished by its decumbent habit, spatulate leaves and large heads bearing pale yellow florets. According to the collector’s information given on the labels, the plant was successfully recollected and is known to occur only in Balneário Hermenegildo, Santa Vitória do Palmar, Rio Grande do Sul, southernmost Brazil. Additionally, conservation status and ecological information about the new species are provided.

A new species, Rhamnidium riograndense, from southern Brazil, is here described and illustrated. We present information about its distribution, habitat, phenology, conservation status and a key for all the South American species of the genus is provided. The new species is endemic to the central part of the state of Rio Grande do Sul, in the transition between Paraná and Pampean provinces in rocky habitats, mostly mountain slopes, where only four populations are currently known.

During a search for populations of wild common bean, namely south of the Central Valley of Costa Rica, a new bean species, Phaseolus albicarminus, has been found on the slope of a mountainous range named Cerros Llano Bonito in the western part of Talamanca range, where it appears to be endemic. Its main morphological features are: short pseudoracemes with four small deltoid primary bracts, small early caducous deltoid bracteoles, calyx lobes reduced to two lips, white wings contrasting with carmine purple inner face of standard, and smoothly curved 3–4 seeded pods with prow-shaped beak. The differences with apparently closely related species, P. hygrophilus and P. angucianae, are: in primary bracts (orbicular versus oval acuminate), larger bracteoles (cordate versus rounded), inner face of standard (pale pink to white versus purple), lower calyx lobes (rounded versus triangular), and pod dorsal suture (straight versus sigmoid), respectively. The fact that to date only three populations of P. albicarminus are known from the same small area of Costa Rica, calls for monitoring its conservation status. This new species is tentatively assigned to the section Brevilegumeni which seems well represented in Costa Rica (with five out of six taxa).
