Two New Species

The new genus Tergoceracris consists of six new species; all are brachypterous, semi-arboreal and montane grasshoppers. They are distinguished from all other known neotropical acridoids by having exaggerated and vertically projecting furculae in the males. Two new species are from the Dominican Republic (Tergoceracris ocampensis n. sp. and Tergoceracris ebanoverde n. sp.) and four from Puerto Rico (Tergoceracris guajataca n. sp., Tergoceracris cerropunta n. sp., Tergoceracris cayey n. sp., and Tergoceracris luquillensis n. sp.).

The new Hesperophasmatini–genus Sigaruphasma gen. nov. from Hispaniola is described and illustrated. It is remarkable for violating several of the previously stated diagnostic features of the tribe Hesperophasmatini Bradley and Galil, 1977. It is well characterized by the cylindrical, cigar–like body of females, proportionally very short legs, strongly broadened profemora of females, lacking sensory–areas on the probasisternum and profurcasternum as well as the smooth egg–capsule. Two new species are described from the Dominican Republic, both from the males, females and eggs. S. bouladoui sp. nov. occurs in the eastern portion of Hispaniola (Monseñor Nouel, San Cristóbal, San José de Ocoa and Samaná provinces) and has fully winged males. S. armatum sp. nov. occurs in the southern and southeastern Dominican Republic (Barahona, La Vega, San José de Ocoa, Elías Piña, Santiago provinces) and has apterous males with a strong body spination. Both species show a remarkable range of intraspecific variability and polymorphism, which is described and illustrated.

Recent collections of the benthic macroand meiofauna associated with the mesophotic coral ecosystems of Puerto Rico haverevealed two new Cumacea from the family Nannastacidae. A new genus Cumellana and two new species, Cumellanacaribbica and Cumella alexandrinae are described herein. The new genus Cumellana can be distinguished from the other genera of the family Nannastacidae by having a long antennule and pereopod 2 with short terminal setae, equal in length.

Two New Species

Two new species of Curiini (Coleoptera: Cerambycidae: Cerambycinae), Plectromerus lingafelteri from the Dominican Republic and Plectromerus ramosi from Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands are described. Features distinguishing the new species from their congeners are presented. Plectromerus distinctus (Cameron), previously synonymized with P. serratus (Cameron), is restored as a valid species.Dos nuevas especies de Curiini (Coleoptera: Cerambycidae: Cerambycinae), Plectromerus lingafelteri de la República Dominicana y Plectromerus ramosi de Puerto Rico y las Islas Vírgenes se describen. Se incluyen características para diferenciar estas especies de otros miembros del género. Plectromerus distinctus (Cameron), previamente sinonimizada con P. serratus (Cameron), se reconoce como especie válida.

Poekilostrongylus puertoricensis gen.nov., sp.nov. is proposed for nematodes recovered from Eleutherodactylus coqui, in Puerto Rico. The new genus is similar to Oswaldocruzia Travassos, 1917, but lacks longitudinal ridges on the cuticle. Oswaldocruzia lenteixierai Viqueras, 1938, is partially redescribed, and a key to the genera of the Oswaldocruziinae is given. Thelandros (Parathelandros) garciai sp.nov. is described from E. antillensis and E. portoricensis. Strongyloides sp. was found in E. antillensis and Aplectana spp. (females) were recovered from E. locustus, E. richmondi and E. coqui.

A new genus and species, Unguitarsonemus paradoxus n. gen., n. sp. and a new species, Pseudotarsonemoides peruviensis n. sp. (Acari: Trombidiformes: Tarsonemidae), are described based on phoretic females collected on bark beetles Phloeotribus pilula and Ph. biguttatus, respectively, from Peru. Three new species of the genus Thaloe are described from Antillean region: Thaloe maricao n. sp., from Maricao, Puerto Rico and Virgin Island, Thaloe leboulet n. sp., from Le Boulet and Mariani, Haiti and Thaloe ebano n. sp., from the Dominican Republic. Females of species of this genus are described for the first time.
