Five new species of Myrsidea parasitic on members of the avian family Cardinalidae are described. They and their type hosts are M. lightae ex the Buff-throated Saltator, Saltator maximus (Statius Müller, 1776), M. markhafneri ex the Slatecolored Grosbeak, S. grossus (Linnaeus, 1766), M. pittendrighi ex the Streaked Saltator, S. striatipectus Lafresnaye, 1847, and M. johnklickai and M.sychrai ex the Blue-black Grosbeak, Cyanocompsa cyanoides (Lafresnaye, 1847). Results from sequences of a portion of the mitochondrial COI gene for several specimens of two of these species and other species of Myrsidea are presented.

Three new species of Myrsidea parasitic on members of the avian family Troglodytidae are described herein. They and their type hosts are M. whitemani ex the Rufous-naped Wren, Campylorhynchus rufinucha (Lesson, 1838), M. bessae ex the Riverside Wren, Thryothorus semibadius Salvin, 1870, and M. vincesmithi ex the Rufous-breasted Wren, Thryothorus rutilus Vieillot, 1819. Myrsidea troglodyti (Denny, 1842) is redescribed and a lectotype designated. Results of sequencing a portion of the mitochondrial COI gene for one of these species and several other species of Myrsidea are given to compare genetic divergence.

They and their type hosts are Myrsidea klickai ex the Northern Slaty Antshrike, Thamnophilus punctatus (Shaw, 1809), M. dacostai ex the Barred Antshrike, Thamnophilus doliatus (Linnaeus, 1764), M. spellmani ex the Spotted Antbird, Hylophylax naevioides (Lafresnaye, 1847), M. milleri ex the Rufous-throated Antbird, Gymnopithys rufigula (Boddaert, 1783), and M. mayermae ex the White-faced Antbird, Pithys albifrons (Linnaeus, 1766). A portion of the mitochondrial COI gene for some of these and other species of Myrsidea was sequenced to compare genetic divergences.

Ten species, including four new species, of the chewing louse genus Forficuloecus Conci, 1941, are recognized from Australasian parrots, and a key is given for their identification. The new species and their type hosts are: F. cameroni ex the Red-winged Parrot, Aprosmictus erythropterus (J.F. Gmelin, 1788); F. banksi ex the Mulga Parrot, Psephotus varius Clark, 1910; F. wilsoni ex the Northern Rosella, Platycercus venustus (Kuhl, 1820); and F. josephi ex the Bourke's Parrot, Neopsephotus bourkii (Gould, 1841). Partial sequences of the mitochondrial COI gene support the genetic distinctiveness of these new species.

A new species of the Cyrtodactylus irregularis group is described from Ninh Thuan Province, southern Vietnam based on molecular divergence and morphological differences. Cyrtodactylus orlovi sp. nov. is distinguished from the remaining Indochinese bent-toed geckos by having the unique combination of the following characters: size medium (SVL 61.0–77.7 mm); dorsal tubercles in 16–20 irregular rows; 36–39 ventral scale rows; precloacal pores absent in females, 5 or 6 in males, in a continuous row; femoral pores absent; 3–8 enlarged femoral scales; postcloacal spurs 1 or 2; lamellae under toe IV 16–19; a continuous neckband; a highly irregular transverse banded dorsal pattern; the absence of transversely enlarged median subcaudal scales. In phylogenetic analyses, the new species was revealed to be the sister taxon to a clade consisting of Cyrtodactylus cattienensis and the most recently described species from Vietnam, C. chungi, with 12.1–12.4% and 11.7 % pairwise genetic divergence from the two species, respectively, based on a fragment of the mitochondrial COI gene.

A new marine Sargassum-boring species of Limnoria (Limnoriidae) is described on the basis of specimens obtained at Kamogawa-shi, Chiba Prefecture, Japan. Limnoria aspera sp. nov. shares a reduced mandibular palp to a seta, algal-feeding, and the clavate shaped epipod of the maxilliped with the other species of non-mandibular-palp group. L. aspera sp. nov. differs morphologically from the congeneric species by secondary unguis of pereopods and unique carinae of pleonite 5 and pleotelson. We describe the sequences of the mitochondrial COI gene and the nuclear 28S rDNA gene. L. aspera sp. nov. differs by 14.2–18.0% in p-distance based on COI sequences from other Japanese species, L. furca and L. nagatai.

Laubuka tenellais a new species characterized by the colour pattern, consisting of short dark vertical bars anteriorly on the side, and a dark lateral band posteriorly on the side, combined with a relatively short pelvic fin and 29–30 lateral-line scales. It is separated from otherLaubukaanalysed by minimum 9 % uncorrectedp-distance in the mitochondrial COI gene. The type series is composed of specimens from small streams in the Cox’s Bazar District in Bangladesh (the type locality), and the Thandwe River drainage in western Myanmar.Laubuka brahmaputraensisis strongly indicated to be a junior synonym ofL. laubuca, the second known species ofLaubukain Bangladesh.Eustira ceylonensis, currently in the synonymy ofDevario malabaricus, is a valid species ofLaubuka.

We described a new cossid species, Dyspessa ulgen sp. nov. from the Tarbagatai and Altai Mountains and compared it to other taxa of Dyspessa reported from the region (D. tristis, D. saldaitisi, D. saissanica), as well as to morphologically similar D. ulula. The new species is most closely related to D. ulula but differs from the latter in the characteristics of the male genitalia, wing pattern, and molecular data (a 658 bp fragment of the mitochondrial COI gene).

A group of small lottiid species in Japan, the Lottia kogamogai complex, was phylogenetically analyzed based on the mitochondrial COI gene. As a result, L. kogamogai is subdivided into two geographic clades. Lottia kogamogai s.s. is limited to southern temperate Japan. The northern population formerly considered an intraspecific variation of the species is shown to be a distinct new species, here described as Lottia goshimai n. sp. The new species is distinguishable from L. kogamogai not only genetically, but in radular morphology and shell sculpture.

The species-rich giant pill-millipedes (Sphaerotheriida) often represent a microendemic component of Madagascar’s mega-invertebrate fauna. Of the chirping genus Sphaeromimus de Saussure & Zehntner, 1902, ten species have been described. Here, we describe two new species of Sphaeromimus integratively, combining light microscopy, scanning electron microscopy, DNA barcoding and micro-CT technology for the first time in a taxonomic description of a giant pill-millipede. S. kalambatritra sp. nov. and S. midongy sp. nov. are the first giant pill-millipedes collected and described from the mountainous rainforests of Kalambatritra and Midongy. Both species show island gigantism compared to their congeners. Our analysis of the mitochondrial COI gene shows that the two species are related to one another with a moderate genetic distance (9.4%), while they are more closely related to an undetermined specimen from the forest of Vevembe (6.3% and 8.4%). They stand in a basal position with S. ivohibe Wesener, 2014 and S. musicus (de Saussure & Zehntner, 1897). The four aforementioned species share a high number of stridulation ribs on the male harp. Our micro-CT analysis provides a look into the head of S. kalambatritra sp. nov. and shows that non-destructive CT methods are a useful tool for studying the inner morphology of giant pill-millipedes.

Ten Japanese species of the genus Spilopteron Townes, 1965 are recognized. Five new species, S. albiventre sp. nov., S. brachyurum sp. nov., S. nigrum sp. nov., S. oblongulum sp. nov. and S. pseudonigrum sp. nov., are described from Japan. Morphological discrimination between most Japanese species is confirmed by sequence analysis of the mitochondrial COI gene, which indicates the following relationships: S. oblongulum sp. nov. + S. apicale (Matsumura, 1912), S. brachyurum sp. nov. + S. nigrum sp. nov. + S. pseudonigrum sp. nov., and S. tosaense (Uchida, 1934) + S. luteum (Uchida, 1930). A key to the Japanese species of Spilopteron is provided. This genus seems to have its center of diversity in the mid-latitude area of East Asia.
