Two new species of cirolanid isopods, Baharilana kiabii sp. nov. from the western coasts of Qeshm Island and Cirolana tarahomii sp. nov. from the northern cost of Kish Island and the western coasts of Qeshm Island in the Persian Gulf are described. Baharilana kiabii sp. nov. is characterized by pleonite 5 with a median projection and a pleotelson with two longitudinal, parallel ridges and small tubercles on the dorsal surface. Cirolana tarahomii sp. nov. is distinguished by a lateral margins of the frontal lamina converging slightly towards the base, the distal margin is extended with a narrowly rounded apex; appendix masculina distally acute with bifid apex, pleotelson with a broadly rounded apex and 8 marginal robust setae, uropodal rami not deeply bifid.

Two new species of Sphaeromopsis (Sphaeromatidae: Isopoda) from Iran are described based on light and electronmicroscope study: Sphaeromopsis sarii sp. nov. from the coasts of Kish and Qeshm Islands, and S. persikolpos sp. nov. from Kish Island, Qeshm Islands and the southern coasts of Iran. The two species are sympatric in most areas. Sphaeromopsis sarii is distinct among other species in the genus for having a pleotelson with a faint dorsomedial furrow and a broadly rounded apex. Sphaeromopsis persikolpos sp. nov. is unique for the single suture at either side of the posterior margin of the pleon, a narrow pleotelsonic apex, and the uropodal exopod extensions that reach well beyond the pleotelsonic apex.

A new species of the laelapid mite genus Gaeolaelaps Evans & Till, G. tuberculatus sp. nov., is described from female specimens collected in soil and rotten leaves under citrus trees in Mazandaran province, northern Iran. Supplementary information on G. deinos (Zeman) is presented. Gaeolaelaps schusteri (Hirschmann) is redescribed based on the type specimens as well as additional specimens collected from the littoral zone of mangrove forests in Qeshm Island, in the eastern part of the Persian Gulf, southern Iran.

Currently, only 31 nereidid species are known from the Persian Gulf and Gulf of Oman. The present study was carried out in order to investigate the poorly known diversity of nereidid polychaetes from seas of the southern coasts of Iran. Specimens were collected from 23 locations along the intertidal zones of the two water bodies. Among the 26 species found: two are new, and are described here, including Simplisetia qeshmensis sp. nov. and Neanthes biparagnatha sp. nov.; 11 are new geographical records. Neanthes biparagnatha sp. nov. is most similar to N. deplanata (Mohammed, 1971), which is also found in the Persian Gulf, but can be most easily distinguished from it by the presence of bars in addition to cones in Area IV of the pharynx. Simplisetia qeshmensis sp. nov. may be distinguished from its closest congener, S. erythraeensis (Fauvel, 1918), also reported from the Persian Gulf, by having a greater number of paragnaths in Area I of the pharynx, an additional type of chaeta (homogomph spinigers) in the ventral neuropodial fascicle and having a reduced notopodial lobe in posterior chaetigers. The list of new records includes: one species from both areas, Neanthes glandicincta (Southern, 1921); eight species from the Persian Gulf, Leonnates decipiens Fauvel, 1929, Neanthes acuminata (Ehlers, 1868), Neanthes sp., Neanthes sp. cf. N. acuminata, Nereis sp. cf. N. pelagica Linnaeus, 1758, Perinereis cultrifera (Grube, 1840) species complex., Pseudonereis trimaculata (Horst, 1924), Pseudonereis sp. cf. P. variegata (Grube, 1857) and two from the Gulf of Oman, Leonnates persicus Wesenberg-Lund, 1949 and Perinereis kuwaitensis Mohammed, 1970. The present study brings to 40 the number of nereidid species currently known from the Persian Gulf and Gulf of Oman. A taxonomic key to nereidid species from the intertidal zones of the Persian Gulf and Gulf of Oman is presented to facilitate future investigations.

Herbivorous amphipods of the family Ampithoidae have an important role in marine ecosystems. Ampithoe qeshmensis sp. nov. is a new member of Ampithoidae from the Qeshm Island, Persian Gulf. The new species resembles A. kava, A. katae and A. cookana based on the second male gnathopod. Ampithoe qeshmensis sp. nov. is characterized by round and reduced distoventral spur on uropod 1 in male, mandibular palp article 3 longer than second one, robust seta on palm of second male gnathopod, and longer flagellum than peduncular article 5 on the second antenna.

Silhouettea ghazalae sp. nov. is described from Qeshm Island, Persian Gulf. Silhouettea ghazalae sp. nov. is distinguished from congeners by having: small mental fold present on chin, head length 31.4–32.4% of standard length, head width 24.5% of standard length, second dorsal fin I/11, anal fin I/13, breast with large cycloid scales, predorsal area naked, suborbital row b anteriorly beginning below anterior edge of pupil, posteriorly ending below pore β, suborbital row c anteriorly extending more than row b and posteriorly extending less than row b, suborbital row cp oblique with four papillae, body with four ill-defined midlateral blotches and the fifth a triangular mark on the caudal fin base, no clearly defined pale saddles on back, and the first dorsal fin pigmented with dots and with dark blotch present anteriorly. A key to Silhouettea species is provided. A dataset including novel and publicly available mtDNA COI sequences of 12 species from the Persian Gulf and Oman Sea gobies belonging to eight genera have been assembled in order to provide a reference dataset for DNA barcoding studies. The new species is further characterised by a minimum K2P distance of 21% to its closest relatives in our dataset, Cabillus tongarevae in the mtDNA COI barcode region.

The genus Apobaetis Day is known by its small size and larval shifting-sand habitat preference (psammophilous). Three species of this genus are recorded in North America, from these, only Apobaetis lakota McCafferty needs to be redescribed because its original description is incomplete, turning difficult to distinguish it from species with similar morphology. Therefore, one of the objectives of this study is to redescribe A. lakota. Based on this redescription, two new species from Brazil, with similar morphology could be identified and are described (Apobaetis biancae sp. nov. and Apobaetis jacobusi sp. nov.). Apobaetis lakota can be differentiated by the labrum rectangular, distal margin without medial emargination, medial area of distal margin with three sockets of setae on dorsal surface; maxillary palp long, more than 2.0× the length of galea-lacinia, segment I with the same length as galea-lacinia; lingua subcircular with one medial lobe; glossa distally rounded; inner projection of labial palp segment II rounded and distally directed, segment III triangular; tarsal claws 1.3× the length of tarsus, without row of denticles. Apobaetis jacobusi sp. nov. can be differentiated from other species by fore tarsal claw I with the same length of tarsus, labrum medially with two protuberances and glossa with pointed apex. Apobaetis biancae sp. nov. can be differentiated by the absence of a ventral row of long thin setae near distolateral margin of labrum, four marginal spines on the paraproct, a subrectangular hypopharynx, and by the absence of robust setae on inner margin of the glossa.
