Glyptothorax maceriatus, new species, is described from the Meghna-Surma River system in Mizoram, northeast India.It differs from most congeners in the Indian subcontinent in having thoracic adhesive apparatus with a narrow elliptic cen-tral depression that is almost enclosed posteriorly by skin ridges. The following combination of characters serve to distin-guish it from congeners in the Indian subcontinent: nasal barbel not reaching anterior orbital margin; interorbital distance27.0–31.4% HL; head length 23.7–25.3% SL; head depth 12.5–14.2 % SL; thoracic adhesive apparatus with narrow el-liptic central depression that is almost enclosed posteriorly by skin ridges (striae) and with single, non-diverging series ofstriae running along its edges; width of adhesive apparatus 55.8–72.1% its length; unculiferous ridges of adhesive appa-ratus not extending anteriorly onto gular region; absence of striae on first pectoraland pelvic-fin elements; pectoral-finlength 20.7–24.9% SL; dorsal-spine length 13.0–17.1% SL; smooth posterior edge of dorsal spine; dorsal-to-adipose dis-tance 17.8–23.6% SL; body depth at anus 11.3–13.8% SL; pelvic-fin length 15.9–19.1 % SL; length of anal-fin base13.9–16.2% SL; caudal peduncle length 21.4–23.9% SL; and caudal peduncle depth 6.4–7.6% SL (3.1–3.4 times in its length).

This study describes Pseudolaguvia viriosa, a new miniature sisorid catfish from the Brahmaputra River drainage in Ar-unachal Pradesh, northeastern India. Pseudolaguvia viriosa can be distinguished from congeners in having a combinationof: eye diameter 10–15% HL, interorbital distance 35–38% HL, head width 21.5–23.5% SL, thoracic adhesive apparatusreaching beyond base of last pectoral-fin ray, pectoral spine length 26.9–32.9% SL, dorsal spine length 23.4–29.0% SL,dorsal spine with anterior edge smooth or with rugose surface only on distal third of spine, body depth at anus 16.9–19.0%SL, length of adipose-fin base 12.5–15.4% SL, caudal peduncle length 14.8–17.7% SL, caudal peduncle depth 7.4–9.8% SL, caudal-fin length 26.5–32.4% SL, 28–29 vertebrae, and one or more distinct pale bands encircling body.

A new species of miniature sisorid catfish is described, from the upper Brahmaputra river drainage in northeastern India. The new species is distinguished from all its congeners except P. ferruginea and P. focusa by having an elongate light brown to cream marks either side on ventro-lateral margin just above anus. Further, distinguished from its congeners by the following combination of characters: presence of a W-shaped dark brown band on caudal fin, thoracic adhesive apparatus extending closer to pelvic-fin base, smooth anterior margin of dorsal spine, a narrow V-shaped light brown to cream bands on side of the body, dorsal-spine length (10.7-14.7% SL), dorsal-fin base length (10.7-14.2% SL), pectoral-fin spine length (14.0-21.1% SL), pelvic-fin length (13.5-16.6% SL), caudal peduncle length (14.4-18.2% SL) and depth (7.8-9.9% SL), total vertebrae (30-31), caudal fin with a complete medial hyaline bands towards its anterior end, reaching outer margin of each lobe. Other combination of characters differentiating the new species from its congeners are provided in the respective diagnoses.

Bagarius vegrandis, new species, is described from the Chao Phraya and Mekong river drainages. It differs from congeners in having a small maximum body size (to 220 mm SL vs. 520–1400 mm SL) and the adipose-fin origin markedly posterior to (vs. at vertical through or very slightly posterior to) the anal-fin origin. It further differs from congeners in having the following unique combination of characters: ovoid unculiferous plaques on dorsal surface of head, lateral margin of frontal not significantly deflected dorsally, eye diameter 11–15% HL, interorbital distance 23–28% HL, head width 18.3–22.3% SL, head depth 11.1–14.1% SL, filamentous extensions to first pectoral-fin element reaching to anus, dorsal spine width 10.6–13.9 times in its length, body depth at anus 8.7–12.0% SL, neural spines of the 4–6 vertebrae immediately anterior to adipose fin distally flattened but not forming series of prominent bumps along dorsal midline, length of adipose-fin base 10.8–13.0% SL, caudal-peduncle length 19.0–22.4% SL, caudal-peduncle depth 3.2–4.2% SL, 19–20 preanal vertebrae, and 39–40 total vertebrae. Bagarius bagarius (Hamilton, 1822) is demonstrated to be a species restricted to the Indian subcontinent (with Bagrus yarrelli Sykes, 1839, Pimelodus platespogon Valenciennes, in Jacquemont, 1839 and Pimelodus carnaticus Jerdon, 1849 as junior subjective synonyms) and Bagarius lica Volz, 1903 resurrected from synonymy with B. yarrelli as a valid species from Southeast Asia.

Akysis bilustris, new species, is described from the Xe Kong drainage (a subdrainage of the Mekong River) in southern Laos. It is distinguished from congeners in having a unique combination of the following characters: eye diameter 14.0– 17.5% HL, serrae on posterior margin of pectoral spine 2–3 and longer than half width of spine, pectoral fin reaching to or overlapping pelvic-fin base (length 24.5–29.3% SL), adipose-fin base length 14.3–18.3% SL, body depth at anus 11.4– 13.8% SL, caudal-peduncle length 19.6–23.4% SL, caudal-peduncle depth 6.7–9.2% SL, caudal fin emarginate, and vertebrae 30–31.

Exostoma kottelati, new species, is described from the Ranga River, Brahmaputra basin, in Arunachal Pradesh state, northeastern India. It differs from congeners in the Brahmaputra River basin in having a longer adipose-fin base (33.4–36.0 % SL vs. 23.4–32.9), a greater (except E. mangdechhuensis) pre-pelvic length (45.6–47.3 % SL vs. 39.3–44.6) and a greater pre-anal length (73.9–76.5 % SL vs. 62.2–70.1). It further differs from all known congeners by the following unique combination characters: the adipose fin is distinctly separated from the dorsal procurrent caudal-fin rays, pre-dorsal length 38.9–41.7% SL, adipose-fin base length 33.4–36 % SL, caudal peduncle length 18.7–21.1 % SL, caudal peduncle depth 8.8–9.5 % SL, and body depth at anus 12.5–13.5 % SL. This is the fifth species of Exostoma known from the Brahmaputra River basin.

Speolabeo hokhanhi, new species, is here described from Hang Va Cave in Phong Nha-Ke Bang National Park (Son River basin) in Central Vietnam. It can be distinguished from S. musaei by having no papillae on the lower lip, no hump immediately behind the head, a duckbilled snout, a shorter caudal peduncle (length 16.8–18.6% SL), and the pelvic fin inserted closer to the snout tip than to the caudal-fin base.

Akysis longifilis, new species, is described from the Sittang River drainage in Myanmar. It is a member of the A. variegatus species group and can be distinguished from congeners in the group (except for A. brachybarbatus, A. fuliginatus, A. pictus, A. prashadi, A. variegatus, A. varius and A. vespa) in having a smooth (vs. serrated) posterior edge of the pectoral spine. It is distinguished from A. brachybarbatus, A. fuliginatus, A. pictus, A. prashadi, A. variegatus, A. varius and A. vespa in having a unique combination of: length of adipose-fin base 25.7–31.1% SL, body depth at anus 9.7–13.6% SL, caudal peduncle length 18.3–23.2% SL, caudal peduncle depth 5.6–7.2% SL, head width 21.1–24.7% SL, nasal barbel length 67.4–96.4% HL, maxillary barbel length 123.2–159.6% HL, vertebrae 33–35, body with light saddle-shaped spots, and caudal fin forked.

ABSTRACT A new species of Characidium from southeastern Brazil is described based on morphological and molecular evidence from specimens collected between the rio Jucuruçu and rio Doce basins. The new species belongs to a group of species within Characidium with an unscaled area in the isthmus and is distinguished from these species, except C. alipioi, C. fasciatum, C. hasemani, and C. kamakan, by the greater distance (greater than 10% SL) and presence of 5-7 scales between the anus and the anal fin, and presence of 14 series of scales around the caudal peduncle. The species is distinguished from C. alipioi by having 4 series of scales above the lateral line (vs. 5 series) and greater distance between the anus and the anal fin; from C. fasciatum and C. kamakan, by the smaller body depth at the dorsal-fin origin, at the anal-fin origin, and at the caudal peduncle; from C. hasemani, by the short distances between the tip of the snout and the pelvic fin, the tip of the snout and the anal fin, and the tip of the snout and the tip of anal fin. The new species forms a presumably monophyletic group with C. alipioi and C. kamakan.

A new species of glyptosternine catfish in the genus Exostoma is described in this study. The new species, E. ericinum, is known from the upper Dayingjiang (=Taping River) drainage in southwestern China and is distinguished from congeners in having an unique combination of the following characters: 42–44 vertebrae; parallel striae on anterolateral surfaces of lips and lower surface of maxillary barbel; interorbital distance 26–31% HL; preanal length 67.7–70.5% SL; body depth at anus 10.4–12.0% SL (1.4–1.9 times in caudal peduncle depth); length of adipose-fin base 39.5–43.0% SL; lacking an incision at posterior extremity of adipose-fin base; caudal peduncle length 23.2–26.2% SL; caudal peduncle depth 5.7–7.9% SL; and caudal-fin lobes with slightly concave posterior margin.

Nandus andrewi sp. nov. is described from the Ichamati River in northeastern India. It differs from all congeners in having a bluish white (vs. mottled brown) body in life, and a combination of the following characters: body depth 24.3– 29.1% SL, pectoral fin length 15.1–18.5%, pelvic fin length 16.2–18.9% SL, eye diameter 18.3–21.7% HL, a dark spot on the caudal peduncle, and 45–52 lateral-line scales. A key to the species of Nandus is also provided.
