Pacificulla gen. nov. of Lecithoceridae (Lepidoptera, Gelechioidea) from New Guinea, with descriptions of six new species

Pacificulla Park, gen. nov. related to Crocanthes Meyrick is described from New Guinea, based on the type species P. flaviagra Park, sp. nov. Five additional species are described: P. esdiparki Park, sp. nov., P. searsi Park, sp. nov., P. callisomata Park, sp. nov., P. cervicalis Park, sp. nov., and P. kekamatana Park, sp. nov. The following six new combinations are proposed, the species of which were formerly included in Crocanthes: Pacificulla thrasydora (Meyrick, 1910), comb. nov.; P. philotima (Diakonoff, 1954), comb. nov.; P. miltina (Durrant, 1915), comb. nov.; P. ignigera (Meyrick, 1938), comb. nov.; P. zonias (Meyrick, 1904), comb. nov.; and P. geniola (Meyrick, 1931), comb. nov. C. xanthorrhoea Diakonoff is synonymized with P. philotima (Diakonoff). The upper surface of adults, labial palpi, and genitalia of all described species are illustrated, including the wing venation of two representative species.

AbstractThe genus Placosaris Meyrick, type-species P. leucula Meyrick, Sangir, is redescribed. Xanthelectria Meyrick, type-species X. beatrix Meyrick of Java, is sunk as a subjective synonym of Placosaris. The following additional named species are referred to the genus as new combinations: Pyrausta cricophora West, Philippine Is.; Pyr. homoeides West, Philippine Is.; Pyr. triticalis Kenrick, New Guinea; Botys egerialis Snellen, Java, with Xanthelectria beatrix Meyrick as a new subjective synonym; Botys turiusalis Walker, Sarawak, with subjective synonyms B. eriggusalis Walker, Sarawak, B. broesialis Walker, Sarawak, and B. miniatalis Swinhoe, Sumatra; Opsibotys coorumba Hampson, Pyrausta auranticilialis Caradja, Canton; Pyr. subfuscalis Car.; Pachyzancla callistalis Hampson, Assam; Ebulea ochripunctalis Warren, Khasia Hills; Pachyzancla ustulalis Hampson, Ceylon; Ebulea intensalis Swinhoe, Khasia Hills; Psara tiawannalis Shibuya, Taiwan; Ps. intensalis rubellalis Caradja, Lienping, China; this last is considered specifically distinct from Placosaris intensalis. The following new species of Placosaris are described: P. steelei, Burma; P. swanni, Burma; P. lindgreni, Nagrispur; P. dohertyi, Assam; P. arjunoalis, Java and Bali; P. udealis, Assam; P. bornealis, Sarawak and Borneo; P. perakalis, Perak; P. apoialis, Mindanao; P. galogalis, Mindanao. Although the new species are mostly extralimital to Temperate East Asia, they are mostly related to Chinese species.

Parapachymorpha is one of eight genera within the tribe Medaurini of subfamily Clitumninae (Phasmatidae). It was established by Brunner von Wattenwyl (1893), with the type species Parapachymorpha nigra by subsequent designation of Kirby (1904), from Myanmar. Species of this genus are widely distributed in oriental tropics (Laos, China, Thailand, Myanmar, Vietnam and Cambodia), with only 11 known species in the world (Brock et al. 2018, Ho 2017). Species of the genus Parapachymorpha can be recognized by following characters (Brunner von Wattenwyl 1893;1907, Henmemann & Conle 2008, Ho 2017): 1) body robust in female and slender in male with long leg in relation to the length; 2) body surface of female granulose or spinose; 3) mesonotum of female more and less expanded posteriorly; 4) abdominal tergites lacking expanded prostero–lateral angles in both sexes; 5) laminal supraanalis undeveloped in female; 6) semi–tergite of male irregularly rectangular, with an additional finger­–like ventro–apical appendix on the lower margin and reduced or absent; 7) egg capsule oval to oblong and covered with a raised net–like structure in lateral view; 8) micropylar plate oval; 9) operculum concave or convex. In the present study, we describe additional species, Parapachymorpha minuta sp. nov. from Laos, with photographs of both sexes of adults and egg.

Introduction of the new genus Deilagaon with descriptions of new species chrysolepidis (type-species) from the Philippines (type-locality Luzon, ex Ficus chrysolepis Miq.), Celebes, New Guinea (ex F. novoguineensis Corner), Bismarck Archipelago, Solomon Isis.; and annulatae from Thailand, Malaya (ex F.depressa Bl.), Sumatra, Borneo (type-locality N. Borneo, ex F. annulata Bl.), Philippines. Included is also Ceratosolen megarhopalus Grandi (1923) from Thailand, Malaya, Sumatra, Java, Borneo, Philippines (Balabac Isl.).

Studies on the Agalliini leafhoppers collected from the Terrestrial Arthropods of Madagascar inventory project of the Cal-ifornia Academy of Sciences, resulted in the discovery of one new genus Agallidwipa gen. nov. (type-species: A. biramosa sp. nov.) with three new species, A. biramosa sp. nov., A. bispinosa sp. nov. and A. webbi sp. nov. and three new species of the genus Igerna Kirkaldy, I. delta sp. nov., I. flavocosta sp. nov. and I. malagasica sp. nov. Two new combinations proposed are Agallidwipa pauliana (Evans) comb. nov. (from genus Agalliana Oman) and Igerna neosa (Webb) comb. nov. (from genus Stonasla White), a species previously recorded from Aldabra Islands. A previous record of Igerna bi-maculicollis (Stål) from Madagascar is shown most likely to be a case of misidentification. All the taxa are described and illustrated. Keys to species of Agalliini from Madagascar are included along with notes on the distinction between Agal-liana and Agallidwipa.

The taxonomy and distribution of Pacific Annonaceae are reviewed in light of recent changes in generic delimitations. A new species of the genus Monoon from the Solomon Archipelago is described, Monoon salomonicum I.M.Turner & Utteridge sp. nov., together with an apparently related new species from New Guinea, Monoon pachypetalum I.M.Turner & Utteridge sp. nov. The confirmed presence of the genus in the Solomon Islands extends the generic range eastward beyond New Guinea. Two new species of Huberantha are described, Huberantha asymmetrica I.M.Turner & Utteridge sp. nov. and Huberantha whistleri I.M.Turner & Utteridge sp. nov., from the Solomon Islands and Samoa respectively. New combinations are proposed: Drepananthus novoguineensis (Baker f.) I.M.Turner & Utteridge comb. nov., Meiogyne punctulata (Baill.) I.M.Turner & Utteridge comb. nov. and Monoon merrillii (Kaneh.) I.M.Turner & Utteridge comb. nov. One neotype and four lectotypes are designated. The geographic patterns exhibited by nine native Annonaceae genera, that range in the Pacific beyond New Guinea, are discussed.

AbstractThe genus Mitelloides Evans is revised. Three species are recognised and described; M. moaensis Evans (the type species) and two new species, M. thorntonensís and M. mouldsi. A key to the males of the genus is provided, and the known distributions of all species are mapped. The genus is known only from north-east Queensland, the Torres Strait Islands, and Papua New Guinea.

A new genus Troglocoelotes Z. Zhao & S. Li gen. n. from South China is described with the type species T. yumiganensis Z. Zhao & S. Li sp. n. (♂♀) and eight additional species: T. bailongensis Z. Zhao & S. Li sp. n. (♀), T. banmenensis Z. Zhao & S. Li sp. n. (♀), T. liangensis Z. Zhao & S. Li sp. n. (♂♀), T. nongchiensis Z. Zhao & S. Li sp. n. (♀), T. qixianensis Z. Zhao & S. Li sp. n. (♂♀), T. proximus (Chen, Zhu & Kim, 2008) comb. n. (♀), T. tortus (Chen, Zhu & Kim, 2008) comb. n. (♂♀) and T. yosiianus (Nishikawa, 1999) comb. n (♀). All species are cave dwellers and not found outside of caves. New combinations are all ex-Draconarius Ovtchinnikov, 1999. DNA barcodes are provided for all species.

The Chinese Hecalina (Deltocephalinae: Hecalini), which consists of five genera, is reviewed. Coloration and shape of the head and body, venation of forewing, and genitalia structures are the main morpological characters utilized to distinguish taxa. Fangamanus gen. n. is proposed for Parabolocratus tripunctatus Matsumura (type species of the new genus) and two other species. A key to the five genera of the Chinese Hecalina (Fangamanus gen. n., Hecalus Stål, Hecalusina He et al., Linnavuoriella Evans, and Thomsonia Signoret) is given, and seven new species from China are described: Hecalus changjiaotus, H. feithailandus, H. nadanus, H. triundosus, H. yuanmouensis, Thomsonia breviaea, and T. daliensis. In addition, four new combinations are proposed: Thomsonia nitobei (Matsumura), Fangamanus rufofascianus (Li), F. tripunctatus (Matsumura) (n. rec.), and F. morrisoni (Kwon and Lee). Only seven previously described species from China remain in Hecalus Stål: H. bifurcatus Cai & Wang, H. furcatus Morrison, H. henanus Cai & Shen, H. katoi Metcalf, H. prasinus (Matsumura), H. thailandensis Morrison, and H. wallengreni (Stål) plus two species (H. paykulli Stål and H. lefroyi Distant) previously recorded but unconfirmed here from China. Four species are redescribed: Fangamanus rufofascianus, F. tripunctatus, Thomsonia porrecta, and the first description and illustration of the male of T. nitobei (Matsumura) are provided.

A cladistic analysis of the genus Melanophora Meigen, 1803 (type-species: Musca grossificationis Linnaeus, 1758 [= Musca roralis Linnaeus, 1758]) is presented and the generic delimitation is critically redefined. The nominal genus-group taxon Bequaertiana Curran, 1929 (type-species: Bequaertiana argyriventris Curran, 1929) is synonymised with Melanophora Meigen syn. nov. The following new combinations are proposed: Melanophora argyriventris (Curran, 1929) comb. nov. and Melanophora basilewskyi (Peris, 1957) comb. nov. Melanophora chia sp. nov. from SW Sardinia is described, illustrated and compared with the other known species of the genus. The male of Melanophora asetosa Kugler, 1978 is described for the first time. Melanophora basilewskyi (Peris, 1957) is recorded from Kenya for the first time.

Marksomyia is proposed as a new subgenus of the genus Culicoides Latreille to embrace six species from Australia and New Guinea. Comparative descriptions of males and females of C. zentae sp. nov. and C. kayi sp. nov., pupae of C. zentae and redescriptions of C. marksi Lee & Reye, C. dycei Lee & Reye, C. parvimaculatus Lee & Reye and C. pseudostigmaticus Tokunaga are presented together with distributional data and keys for their specific determination. The designated type species of the subgenus is C. marksi. Marksomyia is further subdivided into three species complexes based on the shape and sclerotisation of the spermathecae.
