The development of lonchaeid flies of the genus Earomyia Zetterstedt, 1842 (Diptera: Lochaeidae) in Veratrum album L. stems is reported for the first time. Larvae were collected in July 2015 in Serbia (Crni Vrh) in mountains at 988 m a.s.l. from inside a blackened decaying part of the stem at a point 1/3 from the apex. No other insects were discovered in the same part of stem. Emergence of adult E. crystallophila (Becker, 1895) occurred under laboratory conditions in January 2016. The larva and puparia are described for the first time.

For the first time eggs, larvae and pupae obtained by rearing are described for Astrapaeus, a monotypic West Palearctic rove beetle genus of a puzzling phylogenetic position within the megadiverse tribe Staphylinini. Morphology of the immature stages of Astrapaeus ulmi is compared to that of other members of the tribe and discussed in a phylogenetic context. Contrary to conventional systematics and in accordance with recently developed phylogenetic hypotheses based on morphology of adults, larval morphology supports the non-Quediina affiliation of Astrapaeus. Eggs and pupae provided fewer characters with putative phylogenetic signal. Under laboratory conditions, a peculiar preference for isopod prey was observed for A. ulmi. However, this could not be evaluated in an evolutionary context because of the lack of data on the diet of this and related taxa in nature.

Experimental evidence is given to show that only two larval instars occur during the development of Meligethes aeneus (F.) (Coleoptera, Nitidulidae) under laboratory conditions in Scotland, based on the facts that there is only one moult and only one increase in head-capsule width. The egg, first- and second-instar larvae, prepupa and pupa of M. aeneus are described and compared with the corresponding stages of M. viridescens (F.). The larvae of the two species are differentiated for the first time by the arrangement of dorsal cuticular tubercles, the size and form of the urogomphi and the width of the head capsules.

AbstractThe mycoflora developing on the spawn of nine species of amphibians was investigated under laboratory conditions. Fifty-two zoosporic fungus species were found to grow on the spawn investigated, including 6 chytridiomycetes, 1 hyphochytriomycete, 44 oomycetes and 1 zygomycete fungus. Out of these 52 species, 23 are known as parasites or necrotrophs of fish. Five fungus species were recorded for the first time from Poland.

AbstractLarvae and pupae of Atrichopogon winnertzi Goetgebuer and A. oedemerarum StorÅ are described and illustrated. Larvae of both species are terrestrial and associated with rotting pine wood. Diagnoses are given for all stages. Immature stages of A. oedemerarum are described for the first time. A. meloesugans Kieffer, 1922 is recognized as a junior synonym of A. winnertzi Goetghebuer, 1922. Keys are provided to European subgenera of Atrichopogon based on all stages.

Campos Amazônicos National Park is a federal conservation unit that contains part of the largest Cerrado refuge in the southern part of Brazilian Amazonia. Recently, during a survey of aquatic insects in the park, specimens of the caddisfly genus Chimarra were collected. The primary objective of this paper, as a result of this effort, is to describe and illustrate the male adult of a new species in Chimarra (Chimarrita), Chimarra singularis sp. nov., and the immature stages of Chimarra usitatissima Flint 1971. Additionally, the distributions of C.(Chimarrita) akantha Blahnik 1997 and C. (Curgia) jugescens Flint 1998 are extended to the southern part of Amazonas state, and C. (Chimarrita) heppneri Blahnik 1997 is recorded for the first time in northern Brazil.

For nearly 50 years the ixodid tick Hyalomma marginatum turanicum, reputedly introduced into South Africa on imported Persian sheep, has been considered identical to the Asian Hyalomma (Euhyalomma) marginatum turanicum Pomerantzev, 1946. Comparisons of this tick with the Asian H. (E.) m. turanicum and other subspecies of Hyalomma (Euhyalomma) marginatum, however, reveal that it is an old taxon, namely Hyalomma rufipes glabrum Delpy, 1949. It is hereby reinstated as Hyalomma (Euhyalomma) glabrum, and its adults are redescribed and its immature stages described for the first time. The preferred hosts of its adults are large herbivores such as zebras, gems bok and eland, on which it occurs during summer. The preferred hosts of its immature stages are scrub hares and ground-frequenting birds, on which it is present during autumn and winter. Data on its distribution and possible disease relationships are also provided.

The egg and five instars of Trepobates are described based on examined material of T. taylori and published information of T. inermis, T. knighti, T. panamensis, T. pictus, T. subnitidus and T. trepidus. The characters most useful in identifying nymphs I– V of Trepobates are: the width of the head; the lengths of the antennae, femora 1–3, tibiae 2–3 and tarsus 2–3; the Y-shaped ecdysial line of the head; the colour patterns of the proand mesonotum; and the urosternites VIII and IX. A key to the five nymphal instars of Trepobates is provided. The five instars of T. taylori are described and illustrated for the first time, with emphasis on the morphometry and colour pattern of selected structures, and chaetotaxy of the antennae; the egg is figured and redescribed. The characters useful in identifying nymphs I–V of this species are: the colour pattern of the head; the chaetotaxy of the antennal segment I; the lengths of the antennal segment III and mesonotum; and the width of the pronotum. Differences between sexes in nymphs IV and V are presented.

Sixteen species of Tetranychoidea, 11 Tetranychidae and 5 Tenuipalpidae are reported in this study. Seven of them are recorded for the first time from Syria: Bryobia gigas, Oligonychus afrasiaticus, O. coniferarum, O. pratensis, Cenopalpus rubusi, Tenuipalpus cupressoides and T. punicae. New host plant records are also reported. Reinstatement of the genus Nuciforaella Vacante is discussed in this study. Detailed descriptions of immature stages and female of Nuciforaella nikitensis are given. A key to the known species of the family Tetranychidae from Syria is provided.

Yara marmontsedu, a new species in the family Hydroscaphidae (Coleoptera: Myxophaga), is described and illustrated. Specimens of Y. marmontsedu were collected at the Pijibay Creek, tributary of the Mico River in Chontales, Nicaragua. The immature stages are described and illustrated for the first time for a species of Yara. This is a contribution to the knowledge of the water beetle fauna of Nicaragua.
