New data on the taxonomy, distribution and host plants of Australian Epermeniidae (Lepidoptera: Epermenioidea)

During the examination of hitherto undetermined specimens, six new species were found: Gnathifera fuscostriata sp. nov., G. luridicapitella sp. nov., G. montana sp. nov., G. robinsoni sp. nov., Epermenia (Epermeniola) macrodentata sp. nov., Gaedikermenia australica sp. nov. Ochromolopis paropsias Gaedike, 1972 is a new synonym of Gnathifera opsias (Meyrick, 1897). The taxa epispora Meyrick, 1897 and parasitica Meyrick, 1930, previously placed in the genus Epermenia, are transferred to Gaedikermenia Sohn & Wu, 2015. The male genitalia of Gnathifera bidentella (Gaedike, 1981) and G. acacivorella (Gaedike, 1968), and the female genitalia of G. pseudaphronesa (Gaedike, 1972) and G. queenslandi (Gaedike, 1968) are described and illustrated for the first time. First records within Australia are established for nine species. New host plants are recorded for Gnathifera eurybias (Meyrick, 1897), G. bipunctata (Gaedike, 1968), G. opsias (Meyrick, 1897), Paraepermenia santaliella Gaedike, 1968 and Gaedikermenia epispora (Meyrick, 1897). Now 25 Epermeniidae species are known from Australia. The systematic and generic affiliation of Epermenia xeranta Meyrick, 1917, is still uncertain.

The genus Poeciloterpa Stål endemic to the Philippines with 9 known species is reviewed. Four new species are described and illustrated: P. altissima Crispolon et Soulier-Perkins sp. nov., P. conica Crispolon et Soulier-Perkins sp. nov., P. gapudi Crispolon et Yap sp. nov. and P. mangkas Crispolon et Yap sp. nov. Illustrations and descriptions for the male genitalia are given for the first time for all the species except for P. nigrolimbata Stål known only by two female specimens. A key to species is provided. The type of habitats where the species are found is discussed and new host-plants listed.

The paper treats fifteen species of leaf-mining pygmy moths (Insecta, Lepidoptera, Nepticulidae) discovered in the Neotropics (British Virgin Islands, Belize, Costa Rica, Venezuela, and Ecuador), and Ando-Patagonian region (Argentina and Chile). Except for two species, all belong to Stigmella Schrank. Twelve species are new, and are named and described in the current paper: Stigmella apicibrunella Diškus & Stonis, sp. nov.; S. decora Diškus & Stonis, sp. nov.; S. unicaudata Remeikis & Stonis, sp. nov.; S. sanmartini Remeikis & Stonis, sp. nov.; S. patula Remeikis & Stonis, sp. nov.; S. torosa Remeikis & Stonis, sp. nov.; S. monstrata Remeikis & Stonis, sp. nov.; S. huahumi Remeikis & Stonis, sp. nov.; S. venezuelica Remeikis & Stonis, sp. nov.; S. virginica Remeikis & Stonis, sp. nov.; Fomoria miranda Diškus & Stonis, sp. nov.; and Hesperolyra robinsoni Stonis, sp. n. Newly discovered variation of male genitalia of the Andean Stigmella rudis Puplesis & Robinson, 2000 is briefly discussed, and the formerly poorly understood Stigmella hylomaga (Meyrick, 1931) is redescribed and documented with photographs for the first time. We also present more photographs and add some addtional information on Stigmella gallicola van Nieukerken & Nishida, a recently described gall-maker from Costa Rica.The paper also provides new host-plant data: some of the described (or redescribed) species are reported for the first time as leaf-miners on plants belonging to Euphorbiaceae (Acalypha padifolia Kunth), Salicaceae (Azara microphylla Hook. f.), Fabaceae (Inga spectabilis (Vahl) Willd. or I. edulis Mart.), Rhamnaceae (Colletia spinosissima J. F. Gmel.), Geraniaceae or Vivianiaceae (Rhynchotheca spinosa Ruiz & Pav.), and Asteraceae (Mutisia decurrens Cav.). All species treated in the paper are illustrated with photographs of the adults and genitalia, a distribution map, and also photographs of the leaf-mines and host plants when available.

Four new species of Euphyllodromia Shelford, 1908 (E. spathulata, E. nigromaculata, E. neoelegans and E. spiculata) are described. Their male genitalia are illustrated. The female genitalia of E. spiculata and E. nigromaculata are also illustrated. Diagnostic characters of the head, thorax and abdomen of E. amazonensis Rocha e Silva, 1984 are reiterated, illustrated and combined with the description of the male and female genitalia for the first time. A key is provided to include the species treated here.

A new species Ypsolopha rhinolophi Corley is described from northern Portugal and south-east France. It resembles Y. alpella (Denis & Schiffermüller, 1775) and Y. lucella (Fabricius, 1775) but shows clear differences from both species in DNA barcode and in male and female genitalia. Male genitalia of Y. lucella are illustrated for the first time. The new species has been collected at light, reared from larvae on Quercus pyrenaica Willd. and recognised from DNA barcode fragments obtained from droppings of horseshoe bats.

Two new species of Bertawolia and one of Momoria are described and illustrated from Brazil: Bertawolia grazielia sp. nov. from Paraná and Santa Catarina; B. lata sp. nov. from Paraná and Momoria albohabena sp. nov. from Paraná and Minas Gerais. The female genitalia of Bertawolia and Momoria species are described and illustrated by the first time. In addition, host plants for B. grazielia sp. nov. and M. albohabena sp. nov. are recorded and a key to species of Bertawolia is given.

Two new species of the genus Agrisius Walker, 1855, A. orhanti Volynkin, Dubatolov & Kishida, sp. n. and A. leloii Volynkin, Dubatolov & Kishida, sp. n. are described from South Laos and Vietnam respectively. A. orhanti sp. n. belongs to the A. japonicus Leech, 1889 species-group. Whereas, the male genitalia structure of A. leloii sp. n. is intermediate between those of the A. japonicus and the A. guttivitta Walker, 1855 species-groups, therefore, it is assigned to a separated species-group (the A. leloii species-group). Agrisius dubatolovi Orhant, 2012 is downgraded as a subspecies of A. japonicus: Agrisius japonicus dubatolovi Orhant, 2012, stat. nov. Female genitalia of species of the A. japonicus and most of the A. guttivitta species-groups are illustrated for the first time.

Four new leaf mining Oecophyllembiinae (Gracillariidae) species are described from Chinaand Japan: Metriochroa sym-plocosella sp. nov. (host plants: Symplocos anomala, S. sumuntia, Symplocaceae) from China, Guttigera schefflerella sp. nov. (host plant: Schefflera octophylla, Araliaceae), Eumetriochroa araliella sp. nov. (host plants: Dendropanax trifidus, Evodiopanax innovans, Eleutherococcus sciadophylloides and Fatsia japonica, Araliaceae) and Corythoxestis tricalysiel-la sp. nov. (host plant: Tricalysia dubia, Rubiaceae) from Japan. Corythoxestis sunosei (Kumata, 1998) is recorded from new host plants: Adina pilulifera and Mussaenda parviflora, Rubiaceae, from Japan. The female adult and pupal morphol-ogies, life history and host plant of the genus Guttigera are described for the first time. Pupae of seven species of four genera: Corythoxestis, Eumetriochroa, Guttigera, and Metriochroa, are described for the first time. We provide morpho-logical diagnostic differences between species and genera of Oecophyllembiinae and Phyllocnistis. Our preliminary data suggest that Oecophyllembiinae species have three valuable pupal diagnostic characters: 1) cocoon cutter with unique lat-eral processes or setae on the clypeus, 2) tergal spines with only a pair of dorsal setae, and 3) cremaster with more than two pairs of caudal processes, while Phyllocnistis species possess 1) cocoon cutter without lateral processes or setae on clypeus, 2) tergal spines with a pair of dorsal setae and dorsal hooks, and 3) cremaster with only a pair of caudal processes.

Synochoneura is a small genus restricted to China. The genus is reviewed, and one new species is described: Synochoneura dentana sp. n. The female of S. tapaishani (Caradja) is reported for the first time. Images of adults, male genitalia, and female genitalia are provided, along with a key to the known species.

The species belonging to the subgenus Molopsis Schatzmayr, 1943 of genus Tapinopterus Schaum, 1858 are revised. Thestudy is based on 372 specimens and includes, for each taxon, diagnosis, description (only for the new species), references,new distributional records and illustrations. Morphological characters of the male and female genitalia are widely used todelimit the separate species, the significance of some non-gonapophyseal genital structures of the females for the system-atics of Molopsis is explicitly emphasized. For the first time, the male genitalia of T. molopiformis, T. molopinus, T. wie-demanni, and T. rebellis, including also newly described species, as well as female genitalia of Molopsis are described andillustrated. All available type material is listed and represented by habitus photographs.As a result, 9 monotypic species of Molopsis are recognized. Tapinopterus rebellis (Chaudoir, 1868) and T. rebelliskumanensis (Reitter, 1884), formerly assigned to Molopsis are recognized as outgroup-taxa. The following new speciesare described: T. (Molopsis) aenigmaticus sp.nov. (Asian Turkey, „Armenia“ imprecise locality), T. (Molopsis) chaudoirisp.nov. (Asian Turkey, Bursa Villayet, Uludağ Mt., Sakarya (Adapazari) Villayet, Gökdağ Mt.), T. (Molopsis) oyukluensissp.nov. (Asian Turkey, Konya Villayet, Fasihan Pass), and T. (Molopsis) relegatus sp.nov. (Asian Turkey, Bolu Villayet,Mengen env., Dorukhan Pass). AbstractThe taxonomy, phylogeny and zoogeography of the thirteen species of the subgenus Schoyenia known from the Holarctic region are reviewed. Four species are described as new: X. thula from northern U.S.S.R. and northern Canada; X. woodi from Yukon Territory, Canada; X. magadanensis from Chukotka, U.S.S.R., and X. fergusoni from Alaska. A new subspecies of X. lyngei. Xestia lyngeí aborigenea from Magadanskaya Oblast', is described. Three species and five generic names are placed in synonymy for the first time and seven new combinations are proposed. Two lectotypes are designated. Illustrations of adults and male genitalia, and range maps, are given for each species. Female genitalia of nine species are illustrated. The larvae of four species, X. intermedia (Konon.), X. aequaeva (Benj.), X. bryanti (Benj.) and X. lyngei (Reb.) are described and illustrated; the cremasters of the pupae are also described and illustrated.
