Ten new species of marine bryozoans (Gymnolaemata: Cheilostomatida) from Brazil

Despite a recent increase in the number of taxonomic studies on the bryozoan fauna of northeastern Brazil, new discoveries and re-examination of museum specimens allow the continued recognition of new taxa. Here, we describe ten new cheilostome species from the northeastern continental shelf of Brazil based on different museum collections. The new species are: Thalamoporella tupinamba n. sp., Turbicellepora papula n. sp., Plesiocleidochasma brasiliensis n. sp., Plesiocleidochasma infundibulum n. sp., Rhynchozoon turgidum n. sp., Cribrilaria brasiliensis n. sp., Hippoporina titan n. sp., Crepidacantha fasciata n. sp., Crepidacantha browni n. sp., and Hippopodina inarmata n. sp. Some specimens previously reported from northeastern Brazil are here reassigned to the newly described taxa, and two new combinations, Cribrilaria caraguata (Winston & Vieira, 2013) n. comb. and Cribrilaria tuba (Winston & Vieira, 2013) n. comb., are proposed.

In this work, we describe one new genus and 4 new species from Xizang, China: Allogrigoriora carinata gen & sp. nov., Nigrimacula beybienkoi sp. nov., Sinoxizicus carinatus sp. nov. and Tamdaora curvicerca sp. nov. Besides the new taxa, 3 new combinations [Grigoriora cheni (Bey-Bienko, 1955) comb. nov.; Grigoriora kweichowensis (Tinkham, 1944) comb. nov.; Nefateratura bifurcata (Liu & Bi, 1994) comb nov.] are also changed. All the specimens are deposited in Shanghai Entomological Museum, Chinese Academy of Sciences.

A key to the members of the subfamily Opilioninae is presented, including the genus Homolophus. That same genus is briefly reviewed, diagnosed, and redescribed based upon a study of approximately half of the described species. Many older museum specimens from the Zoological Institute (Saint-Petersburg, Russia) were identified and all species present were redescribed. A list of the 29 currently accepted species (all from Northeastern and Central Asia) is presented along with a list of another four species that their validity and proper inclusion in the genus are questioned (still need to be investigated extensively). Descriptions and redescriptions with many illustrations are presented for two new species and 15 previously described species of Homolophus: H. albofasciatus (Kulczyński, 1901); H. almasyi (Roewer, 1911); H. andreevae Staręga & Snegovaya, 2008; H. arcticus Banks, 1893; H. asiaticus (Gricenko, 1979a); H. betpakdalensis (Gricenko, 1976); H. charitonovi (Gricenko, 1972); H. chemerisi Staręga & Snegovaya, 2008; H. chevrizovi Staręga & Snegovaya, 2008; H. gobiensis Tsurusaki, Tchemeris & Logunov, 2000; H. kozlovi sp. nov.; H. martensi (Staręga, 1986); H. milkoi sp. nov.; H. nordenskioeldi (L. Koch, 1879a); H. pallens (Kulczyński, 1901); H. silhavyi Staręga & Snegovaya, 2008; H. tibetanus (Roewer, 1911); H. vladimirae (Šilhavý, 1967). New country distributional records are detailed for nine species, not including those for the two new species. Three new combinations with Homolophus (H. almasyi, H. asiaticus, H. charitonovi) are recognized for Opilio almasyi Roewer, 1911, Opilio asiaticus Gricenko, 1979a, and Globipes charitonovi Gricenko, 1972.

A survey of freshwater fungi on submerged wood in China and Thailand resulted in the collection of three species in Dictyocheirospora and four species in Dictyosporium including two new species in the latter genus. Morphological characters and phylogenetic analyses based on ITS, LSU and TEF1α sequence data support their placement in Dictyocheirospora and Dictyosporium (Dothideomycetes). An updated backbone tree is provided for the family Dothideomycetes. Descriptions and illustrations of the new taxa and re-collections are provided. Four new combinations are proposed for Dictyocheirospora.

Sectus gen. nov. was proposed on the basis of genitalic features. Two new combinations have resulted, Sectus peruviana (Chopard, 1956) comb. nov. and Sectus hainanensis (He et al., 2010) comb. nov. Three new species, Anaxipha nigritorquis sp. nov., Metiochodes gracilus sp. nov. and Sectus integrum sp. nov., are described and illustrated.

The Detarieae, a small tribe of tropical arborescent Leguminosae, has been reported as host of two species of jumping plant-lice: the Neotropical Macrocorsa beeryi (Caldwell) on Hymenaea courbaril and the Afrotropical Retroacizzia mopanei (Pettey) on Colophospermum mopane. Here we add from Brazil 18 new species of Colophorina, Jataiba gen. nov. and Mitrapsylla from Copaifera, as well as nine species of Jataiba gen. nov. and Platycorypha from Hymenaea. In addition to Jataiba, a new genus which is created for five new species on Copaifera and one on Hymenaea, we erect the new genus Apsyllopsis for Psyllopsis mexicana, which is synonymised with Psyllia beeryi Caldwell. Two new combinations are proposed: Apsyllopsis mexicana (Crawford), comb. nov. from Psyllopsis, and Epiacizzia favis (Brown & Hodkinson), comb. nov. from Euphalerus. The new taxa are described and illustrated, and keys are provided for the identification of adults and immatures, as far as known. Immatures of Apsyllopsis and Colophorina induce galls on the leaves whereas those of the other taxa are free-living. Colophorina spp. seem to be monophagous whereas members of the other genera tend to be oligophagous. All host species are associated with two or more psyllid species. Copaifera langsdorffii, which hosts 11 species of three genera, constitutes a super-host.

ABSTRACT Recent taxonomic studies indicated the presence of several undescribed species in the rio Parnaíba basin. Among those, a new species of Parotocinclus endemic of this drainage is herein described. It differs from most of its congeners, including the sympatric P. haroldoi and P. cearensis, by a vestigial or rudimentary adipose fin (vs. conspicuous adipose fin). This character is also present in P. bidentatus and P. muriaensis (both from the rio Paraíba do Sul basin, southeastern Brazil), P. spilurus (rio Jaguaribe basin, northeastern Brazil), P. seridoensis (rio Piranhas-Açu basin, northeastern Brazil), P. halbothi (rios Trombetas and Marowijne basins, northern Brazil and Suriname) and P. dani (from rio Tapajós in Mato Grosso State, Brazil). The new species differs from these latter species mainly by the abdomen extensively covered by broad dermal plates. It also differs from P. haroldoi and P. cearensis by light bands between the snout tip and the nostrils.

Four previously undescribed species of marine nematodes were collected on the continental shelf of the Potiguar Basin in northeastern Brazil. Stygodesmodora amphidialis sp. n. has a large fovea amphidialis, long cephalic setae, globular spermatic cells, 6–8 tubular supplements and button-like caudal papillae. Stygodesmodora paramphidialis sp. n. is similar but can be differentiated by the presence of a bipartite lumen and a fovea amphidialis smaller than in S. amphidialis sp. n. Stygodesmodora robusta sp. n. has a relatively robust body, strongly annulated cuticle, one large dorsal tooth and a small ventral tooth, one row of nine ventrally placed precloacal setae, and arched spicules. Stygodesmodora potiguensis sp. n. has the cuticle strongly annulated, many setae along the body, supplements absent, and sexual dimorphism in the size of the fovea amphidialis. These four new species increase to seven the number of taxa known in the genus.

The following new taxa in the genus Gelatinosporium Peck (Coelomycetes) are proposed: G. griseo-lanatum n.sp., G. sinuatum n.sp., and G. stillwelli n.sp.; new combinations for three species in Gelatinosporium, and a new name for Micropera uncinala. Foveoslroma boycei comb.nov. is proposed for Micropera boycei.

New portunoid fossils from southern Argentina and from the west coast of North America permit the reevaluation of the generic and family relationships within the Portunoidea Rafinesque, 1815. It has previously been suggested that the Portunidae and the Geryonidae Colosi, 1923, are closely related families (Manning and Holthuis, 1989). The new fossils suggest that the Geryonidae may in fact be derived from a portunid progenitor,ProterocarcinusFeldmann, Casadío, Chirino-Gálvez, and Aguirre Urreta, 1995, through a process of peramorphosis in which juveniles of the geryonid speciesChaceon peruvianus(d'Orbigny, 1842) resemble adults ofProterocarcinus latus(Glaessner, 1933). Examination of several genera within the portunid subfamily Polybiinae Ortmann, 1893, includingImaizumilaKarasawa, 1993;Megokkosnew genus;MinohellenusKarasawa, 1990;PororariaGlaessner, 1980;PortunitesBell, 1858; andProterocarcinus,suggests that the subfamily had an amphitropical distribution early in its history. New taxa reported here includeMegokkosnew genus andPortunites nodosusnew species.
