The novel virtual maintenance system has been used to explain ‘how’ DELMIA-Ergonomics (DE) to go from a reactive, maintenance in security procedures, which will be proactively integrated into every step of the research and development design cycle process. DELMIA software has been widely applied in carrier-based aircraft department as the platform, promotion of virtual prototype pre-maintenance technology in carrier borne design and daily inspection/maintenance is introduced, interactive virtual maintenance flow, the virtual scene structuring, the processes of maintenance simulation of virtual actual working conditions, predictable maintainability analysis/valuation technology based on DELMIA software are expounded. The worldwide trend to popularize gradually increasing use of taking DELMIA software in maintenance technology applications is a carrier-based aircraft for gaining interest. DE has become a means to improve carrier-based aircraft performance.

This paper presents a virtual maintenance application for the maintainability analysis and evaluation of flexible cables to provide recommendations on the maintainability of products containing cables during the early stages of product design. This paper provides a methodology for complex products containing cables detecting the potential defects via virtual maintenance technology. An integrated platform for analyzing and evaluating cable maintenance in a virtual environment is designed. Then, based on the maintenance simulation platform DELMIA, a cable maintainability evaluation system is proposed. The system consists of an evaluation element, a evaluation criteria, and an evaluation method. A case study on aviation aircraft subsystem disassembly was used to validate the feasibility of virtual maintenance in improving cable maintainability designs.

Trade-offs studies on two kinds of existing engine thrust reverser design were carried out, applying virtual maintenance method and the basic theory of ergonomics. Analysis on the maintainability of the two kinds of configurations, the O-duct thrust reverser owning the integrated propulsion system (IPS) and the traditional portal D-duct thrust reverser, were compared. According to the differences of O-duct and D-duct thrust reverser in the structure, working principle and mode of motion during the maintenance, structure modelling and kinematics simulation of two kinds of thrust reverser were finished in the same space constraints. Taking DELMIA software as the platform, the partial ergonomic research and evaluation including accessibility analysis, visibility analysis, specific disassembling and assembling time estimation and workspace analysis were put forward through the virtual maintenance simulation of two civil engine thrust reversers. Supplied technical reserves on design and selection, scheme analysis and technical evaluations for domestic engine thrust reverser in the future.
