The inability to recognize or consider viewpoints other than one's own is labeled “egocentrism.” Most obviously present during the early years of life, egocentrism appears at other age levels and in various content areas (e.g., physical, social, linguistic). A similar inability but in relation to not seeing God's perspective is presented here as spiritual egocentrism. This unique conceptualization of spiritual immaturity is examined from the Piagetian orientation and supported with biblically-based examples. Implications, both theological and personal, are suggested based on the results of integrating the concepts of natural and spiritual egocentrism.
