The purpose of this study was to evaluate the correlation between real-time intra-operative ultrasound-based dosimetry (USD) and day 0 post-implant CT dosimetry (CTD) 131 Cs permanent prostate brachytherapy. Fifty-two consecutive patients who underwent prostate brachytherapy with 131 Cs were evaluated. Real time operating room planning was performed using VariSeed 7.1 software. Post-needle placement prostate volume was used for real-time planning. Targets for dosimetry were D90 >110%, V100 >90%, V150 <50%, and V200 <20%. The CT scan for post-operative dosimetry was obtained on day 0. The mean values for USD, CTD, and the linear correlation, respectively, were, for D90: 114.0%, 105.61%, and 0.15; for V100: 95.1%, 91.6%, and 0.22; for V150: 51.5%, 46.4%, and 0.40; and for V200: 15.8%, 17.9%, and 0.42. The differences between the mean values for USD and CTD for D90 (p<0.01), V100 (p<0.01), and V150 (p<0.05) were statistically significant. For D90, 30.8% of patients had a >15% difference between USD and CTD and 51.9% of patients had a >10% difference between these values. In contrast, the USD and CTD for V100 were within 5% in 55.8% of patients and within 10% in 86.5% of patients. This study demonstrates a correlation between the mean intra-operative USD and post-implant day 0 CTD values only for V200. Significant variation in D90, V150, and V200 values existed for individual patients between USD and CTD. These results suggest that real-time intra-operative USD does not serve as a surrogate for post-operative CTD, and that post-operative CTD is still necessary.

ABSTRACT Objective To evaluate the indicators duration of anesthesia, operative time and time patients stay in the operating rooms of different surgical specialties at a public university hospital. Methods It was done by a descriptive cross-sectional study based on the operating room database. The following stages were measured: duration of anesthesia, procedure time and patient length of stay in the room of the various specialties. We included surgeries carried out in sequence in the same room, between 7:00 a.m. and 5 p.m., either elective or emergency. We calculated the 80th percentile of the stages, where 80% of procedures were below this value. Results The study measured 8,337 operations of 12 surgical specialties performed within one year. The overall mean duration of anesthesia of all specialties was 178.12±110.46 minutes, and the 80th percentile was 252 minutes. The mean operative time was 130.45±97.23 minutes, and the 80th percentile was 195 minutes. The mean total time of the patient in the operating room was 197.30±113.71 minutes, and the 80th percentile was 285 minutes. Thus, the variation of the overall mean compared to the 80th percentile was 41% for anesthesia, 49% for surgeries and 44% for operating room time. In average, anesthesia took up 88% of the operating room period, and surgery, 61%. Conclusion This study identified patterns in the duration of surgery stages. The mean values of the specialties can assist with operating room planning and reduce delays.

Shooting free throws plays an important role in basketball. The major problem in performing a correct free throw seems to be inappropriate training. Training is performed offline and it is often not that persistent. The aim of this paper is to consciously modify and control the free throw using biofeedback. Elbow and shoulder dynamics are calculated by an image processing technique equipped with a video image acquisition system. The proposed setup in this paper, named learning control system, is able to quantify and provide feedback of the above parameters in real time as audio signals. Therefore, it yielded to performing a correct learning and conscious control of shooting. Experimental results showed improvements in the free throw shooting style including shot pocket and locked position. The mean values of elbow and shoulder angles were controlled approximately on 89o and 26o, for shot pocket and also these angles were tuned approximately on 180o and 47o respectively for the locked position (closed to the desired pattern of the free throw based on valid FIBA references). Not only the mean values enhanced but also the standard deviations of these angles decreased meaningfully, which shows shooting style convergence and uniformity. Also, in training conditions, the average percentage of making successful free throws increased from about 64% to even 87% after using this setup and in competition conditions the average percentage of successful free throws enhanced about 20%, although using the learning control system may not be the only reason for these outcomes. The proposed system is easy to use, inexpensive, portable and real time applicable.

Abstract A SYBR green real-time PCR assay was developed to find out the sex skewness in bovine sex-sorted semen samples. The qPCR assay of PLP and SRY genes revealed the mean values of X- and Y-bearing spermatozoa as 50.24 ± 0.65 and 49.75 ± 0.62 per cent in unsorted, and 91.80 ± 0.79 and 8.20 ± 0.73 per cent in X-enriched semen samples respectively.. The amplification efficiencies of the PLP and SRY primers were 99.25 and 98.03 per cent respectively. The method was validated by a series of repeatability and reproducibility assays which revealed low co-efficients of variations as 2.19 and 3.12 per cent respectively Thus becoming a reliable and inexpensive tool to evaluate the sorted semen on routine basis and validation of other sperm sexing technologies.
