The aim of this research was to examine the effectiveness of positive parenting program (Triple-P) on the mental health of mothers of children with intellectual disability (ID). This study was a quasi-experimental research with pretest, posttest design, and a control group. Thirty-six mothers of students with ID participated in this study and were divided into two groups (intervention group and control group). Each group consisted of 18 participants. The intervention group received a parent training program during 12 sessions, each session lasting for 80 min, while the control group did not receive any special training. Multivariate analysis of covariance test was applied to analyze the obtained data using SPSS software. The results of this study indicated that Triple-P had significant effect on the somatic symptoms, anxiety, depression, social dysfunction, and mental health of mothers of children with ID. As a result, this research emphasized that parenting skills training will improve the mental health of mothers of children with ID, and therefore, planning for Triple-P training is of particular importance.

AbstractThis study examined the efficacy of the Group Triple P-Positive Parenting Program with a Japanese population to evaluate the feasibility and acceptability of the program and the parenting skills taught in a crosscultural context. The study involved 50 Japanese parents living in Australia and used a randomised group comparison design with two conditions, Triple P group and a waitlist control group. The results revealed significant reductions in parent reported child behaviour problems, parental overreactivity and laxness, and parental conflict as well as increasing parental competence. The acceptability of the program was found to be high. Intervention effects and program acceptability in a Japanese context as well as limitations and future research are discussed.

Background: The positive parenting program has been developed based on social learning principles and is recognized as a potent intervention to help the children with behavioral problems. Objectives: The present study aimed to assess the effectiveness of the triple P (positive parenting program) for mothers on the reduction of the behavioral disorders of their children. Methods: This quasi-experimental was conducted with a pretest-posttest and a control group. In total, 78 mothers employed in the hospitals affiliated to Kurdistan University of Medical Sciences, Iran who had children aged 2 - 12 years were selected, and their children were randomly assigned to the experimental (n = 39) and control groups (n = 39). The triple P intervention was implemented in the experimental group for eight sessions. Data analysis was performed using descriptive statistics and the analysis of covariance. Results: The mean age of the mothers was 33.52 ± 3.9 years. The triple P intervention could effectively reduce the behavioral disorders of the children, while it had no effects on the parenting styles, and depression, anxiety, and stress of the mothers. Conclusions: According to the results, the positive parenting program could be used as a preventive and therapeutic method for the reduction of behavioral issues in children, as well as parental anxiety and depression in relation to children.

Objective: Hearing loss in children can affect the parent-child relationship and the mental health of parents, especially mothers as the children’s primary caregivers. Maternal mental health problems and challenges in the parent-child relationship can affect the rehabilitation process and the future of hearing-impaired children. Thus, the interventions to promote the parent-child relationship and mental health of parents, especially mothers, should be studied. Triple P or positive parenting program is one of these effective interventional programs. Recently, a new intervention called the Baby Triple P parenting program was developed based on the Triple P program. This study investigates the effect of the Baby Triple P positive parenting program on mental health and mother-child relationship in mothers of children with hearing impairment. Materials & Methods: This research is a quasi-experimental study with a pretest-posttest design using a control group. The participants were 24 mothers under 3 years old children with hearing impairment referred to the centers for families and children with hearing disabilities in Tehran, Iran, in 2019. They were selected using a convenience sampling method and then randomly divided into groups of intervention (n=12) and control (n=12). The intervention group received the Baby Triple P positive parenting program for 13 training 1-h sessions, one session per week. The control group did not receive any intervention. Both groups completed the mother-child relationship evaluation questionnaire and the symptom checklist-90-revised instrument before and after the intervention. The collected data were analyzed by the Mann-Whitney U test and independent sample t-test. Results: There was no significant difference between the two groups regarding mental health after the intervention (P>0.05). Among four components of the mother-child relationship, the Baby Triple P program had no significant effect on acceptance, overindulgence, and rejection (P>0.05), except on the overprotection component (P<0.05), which was significantly higher in the intervention group. Conclusion: There is a great need for early interventions for maternal mental health problems and challenges in mother-child relationships for mothers of children with hearing impairment. Although the Baby Triple P is a useful program, it is new for the parents of these children. Considering the unique needs of these children, more studies are needed to enrich the content of this program for the mothers of children with hearing loss to explore its various aspects.
