The dressing of non-rigid cylindrical parts by transverse rolling by smooth plates is considered. The effect of absolute drafting on the accuracy of the straightness and diametrical size of the product, microstructure, hardness and hardening depth of the strengthened part is experimentally determined. Keywords dressing, absolute drafting, transverse rolling, accuracy, straightness, roundness, [email protected], microstructure, hardness.

The edger mill stand belonged to the oversized integrated-casted stand-type heavy parts, if it was machined on the planer milling and boring machine, above 90% of the milling and boring process could be completed by only clamping for two times, and more accurate values could be obtained. Improved and changed the numerically-controlled process of this part in the machining process, and all working procedures of the edger mill stand were machined on the numerically-controlled floor-type boring machine with the diameter of 260, thereby accumulating the experience of machining the stand parts with complex cavity sizes and further expanding the scope of numerically-controlled floor boring machine process. The improvement and implementation of NC process on this workrpiece is of important meaning of reference for the kind of parts.

Because of the widespread use of urea fertilizer, it became evident that an assessment of urease addition on natural ureolysis was pertinent. Samples of each layer of the surface organic horizon of a black spruce (Picea mariana Mill.) stand at Baie-Comeau, Quebec, were treated with urease then tested for ureolysis activity. Added urease was active in all samples; the increase of activity was affected by the type of sterilization treatment used and the layer of the surface organic horizon. Additional ureolysis was greatest in unsterilized samples, less in radiation-sterilized samples, least in steam-sterilized samples, and decreased with depth of layers. Autoclaving inhibited activity of urease added previously or subsequently while irradiation had a lesser effect. Every layer had an upper limit of urease adsorption and was characterized by a definite capacity to adsorb urease which increased with depth of layers. The pattern of ureolysis observed when urease was added to solutions obtained from layer samples was similar to that observed when urease was added to the layer samples themselves. All solutions inhibited the action of added urease.

This paper substantiates why it is necessary to limit the dynamic loads in stand shafts when closing angular gaps. The paper is a feasibility study of a concept developed specifically to limit each of the factors that affect amplitude of the dynamic torque; limitations applied are determined on a case-by-case basis. The research team studied the components of elastic torque in a dual-mass electromechanical system of Mill 5000 caused by vibrations arising from the elasticity of transmission as well as from the vibrations caused by elastic collision itself. It is shown that the lowest possible pre-acceleration is necessary for decreasing the dynamic coefficient at a near-nominal load torque. A principle of limiting dynamic loads when closing an angular gap is proposed, which implies collecting tachograms of an electric drive subjected to positive or negative acceleration before and after the fed metal is captured. The research team has developed drive control principles to implement this approach. The recommendation is to upgrade the electric drives of the reversing stand in Mill 5000.

Treatment to reduce density, from 19 000 stems/ha to about 1642 stems/ha at a regular spacing of 2.4 × 2.4 m, in a young balsam fir (Abiesbalsamea (L.) Mill.) stand stimulated carbon mineralization rates of the litter layer which were, in turn, positively correlated with inorganic nitrogen levels. Increased carbon mineralization rates were attributed to increased summer temperatures in the litter layer. Temperature measurements under the snow indicated a consistently lower winter temperature in the treated stand as compared with the control. The increased and more regular spacing in the treated stand resulted in more rapid basal area growth, increased needle weights, and greater foliar N concentrations, reflecting an increased nitrogen uptake by the trees.
