This paper documents the set-up and validation of nonlinear autoregressive exogenous (NARX) models of a heavy-duty single-shaft gas turbine. The considered gas turbine is a General Electric PG 9351FA located in Italy. The data used for model training are time series data sets of several different maneuvers taken experimentally during the start-up procedure and refer to cold, warm and hot start-up. The trained NARX models are used to predict other experimental data sets and comparisons are made among the outputs of the models and the corresponding measured data. Therefore, this paper addresses the challenge of setting up robust and reliable NARX models, by means of a sound selection of training data sets and a sensitivity analysis on the number of neurons. Moreover, a new performance function for the training process is defined to weigh more the most rapid transients. The final aim of this paper is the set-up of a powerful, easy-to-build and very accurate simulation tool which can be used for both control logic tuning and gas turbine diagnostics, characterized by good generalization capability.

Considering the complexity of propulsion plant and the multiple operating conditions for fishing vessel, the modeling and simulation of ship engine propeller and net for the ocean-going fishing vessel are investigated. According to the matching theory of ship engine propeller and net, the relationships of them are analyzed. Furthermore, the motion balance equation and dynamic equilibrium equation are built for the translation system and rotation system of fishing vessel which can indicate the changing trends of propeller rotational speed or ship speed and propeller torque of thrust. Based on this, by setting up the simulation models of various subsystems, the simulation model of propulsion plant are built for the ocean-going fishing vessel. A trawler is considered to perform simulation tests in which start-up condition, normal navigation condition and trawling condition are taken into account. The simulation results illustrate the correctness and validity of modeling and simulation for propulsion plant system.

This article presents examples of results of energetic state parameters measurements of LM 2500 naval gas turbines operated by the Polish Navy. Currently in operation there are four LM 2500-type engines. In the near future, another LM 2500 engine will commence operations, along with a project 661M patrol ship. The energetic state parameters measurements covers the engine start-up process, their operation in idle mode and within the whole range of load variations, as well as stoppage of engine process. The article presents examples of characteristics specific to the above processes, determined based on the results of studies of this kind of engines. The results of these studies will be used to verify the modeling and simulation results of the internal energy processes occurring in this kind of engine.

In this study, nonlinear autoregressive exogenous (NARX) models of a heavy-duty single-shaft gas turbine (GT) are developed and validated. The GT is a power plant gas turbine (General Electric PG 9351FA) located in Italy. The data used for model development are three time series data sets of two different maneuvers taken experimentally during the start-up procedure. The resulting NARX models are applied to three other experimental data sets and comparisons are made among four significant outputs of the models and the corresponding measured data. The results show that NARX models are capable of satisfactory prediction of the GT behavior and can capture system dynamics during start-up operation.
