The article describes the results of the application of the eddy current method for nondestructive testing of heat-exchange tubes at operating NPPs. Typically tubes are produced of copper-nickel alloys and stainless steel. For the purpose of examining tubes of different materials eddy current probes of different types were used in order to increase reliability and precision. In order to obtain information on real flaw dimensions tubes were cut and examined using metallography equipment.

An investigation was conducted to explore the applicability of eddy current nondestructive evaluation technique for the characterization of manganese steels. Specimens of two different types of manganese steels were subjected to various compression loads. The specimens were then evaluated by mechanical and eddy current testing. The hardness and eddy current values were increased due to conversion of austenite to martensite. In this study the correlation between eddy current parameters and compression load was discussed.

This paper presents the results of ultrasonic and eddy-current measurements of the characteristics of austenitic stainless steel AISI 321 under fatigue failure. The effect of the strain amplitude on the intensity of changes in elastic and magnetic properties is studied. The use of a combination of eddy current and ultrasonic measurements makes it possible to assess the state of steel AISI 321 under fatigue failure is shown. The technique for measuring ultrasonic parameters described in this paper allows us to register changes in the structural state of a material under fatigue failure long before the crack is formed. The eddy current method is used to determine the volume fraction of martensite with ferromagnetic properties. An algorithm is proposed for estimating the number of loading cycles and the operating time of metastable austenitic steel AISI 321 based on the data of ultrasonic and eddy current measurements.
