The taxonomic treatment of the tribe Millerieae of Bahia state, Brazil, is presented. The tribe is represented by five genera in Bahia: Acanthospermum (2 species), Galinsoga (2), Ichthyothere (2), Melampodium (2) and Tridax (1). Ichthyothere hirsuta is a new record in the state. Acanthospermum australe, A. hispidum, Ichthyothere terminalis and Tridax procumbens are widely distributed in Bahia and, although ruderal, are still inaccurately identified in herbaria. Descriptions, identification keys, illustrations, comments on taxonomy and geographical distribution are provided for taxa.

The subtribe Vernoniinae is one of the most representative of the tribe Vernonieae in Americas with six genera and 49 species in Brazil. The taxonomic treatment of Vernoniinae (Asteraceae, Vernonieae) in Bahia state is presented here. Twenty expeditions were undertook in the state between the years 2010 and 2013 and materials from the main Brazilian herbaria were examined. The subtribe is represented in the state by three genera and 11 species: Vernonanthura (7 species), Cyrtocymura (3) and the monotypic genus Albertinia. Vernonanthura vinhae is endemic to Bahia. Identification keys for genera and species, descriptions, illustrations, maps of geographical distribution and comments on the taxa are presented.

ABSTRACT As part of a floristic survey of the vascular flora of Pedra do Elefante, Espírito Santo State, Brazil, a taxonomic treatment of the Anemiaceae is here presented. Fieldwork was conducted monthly from March 2015 to July 2016. Samples were collected and dried according to the usual methodology and incorporated into the VIC and VIES herbaria. In addition to VIC and VIES, we also studied the specimens form MBML herbarium. Eight species, one variety, and a new hybrid were recorded: Anemia collina, A. ×elephantensis nothosp. nov., A. ferruginea var. ferruginea, A. hirsuta, A. luetzelburgii, A. organensis, A. patens, A. phyllitidis, A. tomentosa var. tomentosa, and A. tomentosa var. anthriscifolia. Besides the new hybrid, A. tomentosa var. tomentosa is also a new record for the state. Identification key, descriptions, comments, geographical distribution and illustrations are provided for all taxa.

Abstract Aiming to increase the knowledge concerning the canga vegetation of the Serra dos Carajás, a taxonomic treatment of the Piperaceae species was prepared. Thirty species were recorded for the region, of which 20 taxa were found growing on canga substrate (ferruginous rupicolous vegetation). The majority of the species studied belong to Piper (23 species). The first record of P. goeldii for the state of Pará is presented, while the fruit of P. pellitum is described for the first time. Two out of seven Peperomia species studied - P. albopilosa and P. pseudoserratirhachis are described as new. Identification keys, detailed descriptions, geographical distribution and comments for taxa, besides illustrations of those poorly known or that are reported for the first time in the region, are provided.

Abstract: This work presents the taxonomic study of the native species of Bombacoideae Burnett (Malvaceae) in the state of Paraíba, Northeastern Brazil. The taxonomic treatment included keys for identifying genera and species, morphological descriptions, diagnostic illustrations, comments on taxonomic affinities, and additional information on geographical distribution, habitat, and flowering and fruiting of the species. Three genera and six species were recorded: Ceiba Mill., represented by C. glaziovii (Kuntze) K. Schum., is a new record for the Atlantic Forest; Eriotheca Schott & Endl., represented by E. gracilipes (K. Schum.) A. Robyns and E. macrophylla (K. Schum.) A. Robyns, is a new record for Paraíba; and Pseudobombax Dugand, which is represented by P. marginatum (A.St.-Hil., Juss. & Cambess.) A. Robyns, P. parvifolium Carv.-Sobr. & L.P. Queiroz and P. simplicifolium A. Robyns Robyns - the last one registered for the first time in Paraíba in this study.

Abstract A taxonomic treatment of the genera Turnera and Piriqueta in the state of Pernambuco, northeastern Brazil, is presented. Fourteen species of Turnera and six species of Piriqueta were found in the Atlantic Forest and Caatinga, of which nine are endemic to Brazil. Turnera pernambucensis is threatened and restricted to the Atlantic Forest of Pernambuco, while T. joelii is a new record for the state. The species predominate in steppe savanna and semideciduous seasonal forest, but several of them grow naturally in anthropized areas. Catimbau National Park is the locality with the highest species richness. Tristyly is recorded for the first time in Piriqueta guianensis. Identification keys, descriptions, illustrations, distribution maps, and comments about habitat, flowering, fruiting, and morphological relationships are provided.

We present the taxonomic treatment of the genus Enterolobium for the state of Bahia, Brazil. Five species were recorded, for which we provide an identification key, descriptions, comments, data on the period of fruiting and flowering, as well as illustrations and maps of geographical distribution in Bahia.

Abstract: This work presents a floristic survey of the subfamilies Bombacoideae, Byttnerioideae, Grewioideae and Helicterioideae (Malvaceae s.l.) in the Raso da Catarina Ecoregion (RCE), Bahia, Brazil. The samples analyzed were collected from September 2013 to May 2015. The analyses were supplemented with dried collections kept in the herbaria: ALCB, HRB, HUEFS, HUNEB, HST, IPA, PEUFR, R and RB. The identifications were based mainly on specialized bibliographies, protologues, types and herbaria collections. Ten genera and 22 species of the subfamilies were recorded, nine endemic to Brazil. Waltheria L. was the most representative genus with five species, followed by Ceiba Mill. and Melochia L. with three species each, Helicteres L., Luehea Willd., Pachira Aubl. and Pseudobombax Dugand presented two species each and other genera were represented by one species each. Among the species recorded, Luehea candicans Mart. represents a new record for the Caatinga biome. The species most commonly found in the study area were Helicteres velutina K.Schum., Melochia tomentosa L., Waltheria brachypetala Turcz., W. indica L. and W. rotundifolia Schrank. The taxonomic treatment includes identification key, descriptions, illustrations, photos, geographical distribution, reproductive phenology and comments about all studied species. This work presents the taxonomic treatment of the genus Astraea in Bahia. The state, along with Minas Gerais, has the highest diversity of Astraea, with seven species recognized: A. digitata, A. gracilis, A. klotzschii, A. paulina, A. praetervisa, A. subcomosa and A. surinamensis. The treatment includes an identification key, descriptions, photographs and distribution maps, besides comments on geographical distribution, habitat and phenology.

Desmoncus leptoclonos Drude is recorded for the first time for the state of São Paulo, Brazil. Based on this new record, the geographical distribution of Desmoncus Mart. for Brazil is expanded. An identification key to climbing species of Brazilian Desmoncus, a description, a map of geographic distribution, photographs, and comments concerning Desmoncus leptoclonos are provided.

The genus Schizachyrium Nees includes ca. 60 species, 15 of them previously cited for Brazil. Schizachyrium bimucronatum Roseng., B.R. Arrill. & Izag. is a new record for Brazil and S. lactiflorum (Hack.) Herter, for the State of Rio Grande do Sul. Morphological data to aid in the identification of the two species, including short descriptions and illustrations, as well as data on their geographical distribution and habitat, are provided.
