We present the results of our investigation of feather mites (Astigmata) associated with non-passerine birds in Brazil. The studied birds were obtained from roadkills, airport accidents, and from capitivity. Most ectoparasites were collected from bird specimens by washing. A total of 51 non-passerine species from 20 families and 15 orders were examined. Of them, 24 species were assessed for feather mites for the first time. In addition, 10 host associations are recorded for the first time in Brazil. A total of 101 feather mite species were recorded, with 26 of them identified to the species level and 75 likely representing undescribed species; among the latter samples, five probably represent new genera. These records allowed the first inference about the host and mite association of many species, as well as the first discussion about the geographical distribution of some feather mite taxa along the host distribution.

Two new species of the feather mite genus Trouessartia (Analgoidea: Trouessartiidae) are described from passerine birds in Primorsky Krai (Russian Far East): Trouessartia calliope sp. n. from the Siberian Rubythroat Calliope calliope (Linnaeus) and T. larvivorae sp. n. from the Rufous-tailed Robin Larvivora sibilans (Swinhoe) (Passeriformes: Muscicapidae: Saxicolinae). Both new species are close to T. swidwiensis Jablonska, 1968 associated with nightingales of the genus Luscinia (Linnaeus) (Muscicapidae) in having the prohysteronotal and lobar parts of the hysteronotal shield not separated in males and in having setae h1 situated on large ovate non-sclerotized areas and in the absence of the external copulatory tube in females.

Four new species of the feather mite genus Mesalgoides (Acariformes: Psoroptoididae: Pandalurinae) are described from passerine birds (Passeriformes) in China: Mesalgoides morrisonia sp. nov. from Alcippe morrisonia Swinhoe (Leiothrichidae), M. vinacea sp. nov. from Carpodacus vinaceus Verreaux (Fringillidae), M. flammicepis sp. nov. from Cephalopyrus flammiceps (Burton) (Paridae), and M. erythaca sp. nov. from Pyrrhula erythaca Blyth (Fringillidae).

AbstractFour new species of the feather mite subfamily Pterodectinae (Proctophyllodidae) are described from passerine birds examined in Senegal: Dolichodectes gymnoris sp. nov. from the Russet-browed Bush-sparrow Gymnoris dentata (Sundevall, 1850) (Passeridae), Montesauria plocei sp. nov. from the Village Weaver Ploceus cucullatus (Muller, 1776) (Ploceidae), M. zosteropis sp. nov. from the African Yellow White-eye Zosterops senegalensis Bonaparte, 1850 (Zosteropidae), and Proterothrix terpsiphone sp. nov. from the African Paradise-flycatcher Terpsiphone viridis (Muller, 1776) (Monarchidae). Brief notes on systematics and host associations of the pterodectine genera Dolichodectes Park et Atyeo, 1971, Montesauria Oudemans, 1905, and Proterothrix Gaud, 1968 are also given.
