SummaryBackground/Aim: Our aim is to describe multidisciplinary approach to primary tuberculous lymphadenitis with a case report.Case Report: A 6-year-old boy was referred to İstanbul University, Faculty of Dentistry, Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery with the symptoms of painless extra-oral abscess and lymphadenopathy. The diagnosis of primary tuberculous lymphadenitis was proved by microbiological culture and ultrasound imaging. Conclusions: Combine tuberculosis treatment should be applied and long term follow up is necessary. Excisional biopsy for tissue diagnosis and bacterial examination with culture should be performed for an early diagnosis as a delay in treatment can lead to devastating consequences.

Background: The objectives of this study were to determine the frequency of imaging-histological discordance and to compare the frequency of carcinoma between discordant lesions at ultrasound (US)-guided core needle biopsy. Materials and Methods: From November 2009 to June 2012, we performed US-guided 14-gauge core needle biopsies on 989 breast lesions in 961 women. We reviewed 58 (5.8%) cases that had imaging-histological discordance after percutaneous breast biopsy and underwent subsequent excisional biopsy. The clinical, radiological, and histological findings were reviewed for those 58 cases. Results: Among the 58 cases, subsequent excisions revealed 16 (27.5%) malignancies, which were categorized as 9 (15.5%) invasive ductal carcinomas, 4 (6.9%) malignant phyllodes tumors, and 3 (5.1%) ductal carcinomas in situ. Conclusion: The malignancy rate of 27.5% suggests that surgical excision should be performed in those cases presenting with imaging-histological discordance after US-guided core biopsy. Careful correlation of clinical, radiological, and histological results as well as appropriate follow-up are essential.

Introduction: A young boy presented with mandibular swelling at the Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery in Hospital Leforte, São Paulo, Brazil. Radiography showed a mixed bone lesion. Computed tomography (CT) findings were compatible with ameloblastic fibro-odontoma (AFO). Case Report: An excisional biopsy was performed under general anesthesia. At the 6-year follow-up, local inflammation and mild exudates were found. Local recurrence of the lesion was observed on CT. Therefore, excision and curettage were performed. No signs of recurrence have been detected to date. Ameloblastic fibro-odontoma is a rare benign neoplasm most commonly occurring in the first decade of life, with minimal probability of malignancy. Conclusion: Clinical, radiological, and histopathological findings aid in the diagnosis, and long-term follow-up is necessary as recurrence can develop even after 6 postoperative years.

We describe a case of solitary extramedullary plasmacytoma of the oropharynx growing on the left posterior tonsillar pillar. The clinical picture was difficulty in swallowing caused from the partial obstruction of the area and bleeding from the ulcerated tumor. Lambda light chains were identified on immunohistochemical staining but they were not detected in either serum or urine (non-secreting tumor). Excisional biopsy followed by radiation therapy were used for treatment. Long-term follow up for several years is necessary in order to rule out evolution to multiple myeloma.

The cells in glomus body regulate blood flow to the skin and play a role in temperature regulation. Glomuvenous malformations (GVMs), previously reported in literature as glomus tumors or glomangiomas, are usually present in the nail bed. In 1972, Carroll and Berman described the triad of paroxysmal stabbing pain, point tenderness, and cold hypersensitivity associated with these malformations. We present an unusual case of GVM in the neck of a 17-year-old female presenting with a painful right-sided neck mass. Physical examination revealed an approximately 2.5 × 2 cm right-sided tender neck mass; pain was exacerbated by probing with a pinhead. Computed tomography identified multiple rounded masses in the neck, with the delayed contrast filling. The patient underwent excisional biopsy of the lesion and samples were sent for histopathological examination. The histopathology report, along with the radiological findings and the clinical presentation, confirmed the diagnosis of GVM. The patient remained symptom-free on long-term follow-up.Despite absence of previous reports, GVM can occur in neck. Surgical excision can lead to complete resolution of symptoms.
