Abstract In this paper we investigate the regularity properties of one-sided fractional maximal functions, both in continuous case and in discrete case. We prove that the one-sided fractional maximal operators $ \mathcal{M}_{\beta}^{+} $ and $ \mathcal{M}_{\beta}^{-} $ map $ W^{1,p}(\mathbb{R}) $ into $ W^{1,q}(\mathbb{R}) $ with 1 <p <∞, 0≤β<1/p and q=p/(1-pβ), boundedly and continuously. In addition, we also obtain the sharp bounds and continuity for the discrete one-sided fractional maximal operators $ M_{\beta}^{+} $ and $ M_{\beta}^{-} $ from $ \ell^{1}(\mathbb{Z}) $ to $ {\rm BV}(\mathbb{Z}) $. Here $ {\rm BV}(\mathbb{Z}) $ denotes the set of all functions of bounded variation defined on ℤ. The results we obtained represent significant and natural extensions of what was known previously.

AbstractIn this paper we introduce and investigate the regularity properties of one-sided multilinear fractional maximal operators, both in continuous case and in discrete case. In the continuous setting, we prove that the one-sided multilinear fractional maximal operators$\mathfrak{M}_\beta^{+}\; \text{and}\, \mathfrak{M}_\beta^{-}$map W1,p1 (ℝ)×· · ·×W1,pm (ℝ) into W1,q(ℝ) with 1 < p1, … , pm < ∞, 1 ≤ q < ∞ and $1/q= \sum_{i=1}^m1/p_i-\beta$, boundedly and continuously. In the discrete setting, we show that the discrete one-sided multilinear fractional maximal operators are bounded and continuous from ℓ1(ℤ)×· · ·×ℓ1(ℤ) to BV(ℤ). Here BV(ℤ) denotes the set of functions of bounded variation defined on ℤ. Our main results represent significant and natural extensions of what was known previously.

AbstractIn this paper we investigate the endpoint regularity properties of the multisublinear fractional maximal operators, which include the multisublinear Hardy–Littlewood maximal operator. We obtain some new bounds for the derivative of the one-dimensional multisublinear fractional maximal operators acting on the vector-valued function with all ƒ j being BV-functions.

We study the regularity properties of several classes of discrete maximal operators acting on $\text{BV}(\mathbb{Z})$ functions or $\ell ^{1}(\mathbb{Z})$ functions. We establish sharp bounds and continuity for the derivative of these discrete maximal functions, in both the centred and uncentred versions. As an immediate consequence, we obtain sharp bounds and continuity for the discrete fractional maximal operators from $\ell ^{1}(\mathbb{Z})$ to $\text{BV}(\mathbb{Z})$.

In this paper, the regularity properties of two classes of commutators of the one-sided Hardy-Littlewood maximal functions and their fractional variants are investigated. Some new bounds for the derivatives of the above commutators and the boundedness and continuity for the above commutators on the Sobolev spaces will be presented. The corresponding results for the discrete analogues are also considered.

In the present paper we define a general class Bn,a, a =1, of Durrmeyer-Bézier type of linear positive operators. Our main aim is to estimate the rate of pointwise convergence for functions f at those points x at which the one-sided limits f(x+) and f(x-) exist. As regards these functions defined on an interval J certain conditions are required. We discuss two distinct cases: Int (J)=(0,8) and Int (J)=(0,1).

We investigate the regularity properties of the two-dimensional one-sided Hardy-Littlewood maximal operator. We point out that the above operator is bounded and continuous on the Sobolev spaces Ws,p(R2) for 0≤s≤1 and 1<p<∞. More importantly, we establish the sharp boundedness and continuity for the discrete two-dimensional one-sided Hardy-Littlewood maximal operator from l1(Z2) to BV(Z2). Here BV(Z2) denotes the set of all functions of bounded variation on Z2.

AbstractWe introduce and investigate an adaptation of Fourier series to set-valued functions (multifunctions, SVFs) of bounded variation. In our approach we define an analogue of the partial sums of the Fourier series with the help of the Dirichlet kernel using the newly defined weighted metric integral. We derive error bounds for these approximants. As a consequence, we prove that the sequence of the partial sums converges pointwisely in the Hausdorff metric to the values of the approximated set-valued function at its points of continuity, or to a certain set described in terms of the metric selections of the approximated multifunction at a point of discontinuity. Our error bounds are obtained with the help of the new notions of one-sided local moduli and quasi-moduli of continuity which we discuss more generally for functions with values in metric spaces.
