Abstract In this paper, a single-phase to three-phase converter is proposed to provide variable output voltage and frequency. The proposed topology employs only six IGBT switches, which form the front-end rectifier and the output inverter for the one step conversion from single-phase supply to output three-phase supply. The front-end rectifier permits bidirectional power flow and provides excellent regulation against fluctuations in source voltage. Moreover, it incorporates active input current shaping feature. An easy method to implement control strategy is proposed. This control strategy ensures nearly unity input power factor with sinusoidal input current over the operating range. Based on sensorless vector control technique, the proposed converter is used for the speed control of the three-phase induction motor. A low cost motor drive can be achieved using the proposed converter and control technique. Simulation and experimental results are carried out to analyse and explore the characteristics of the low cost drive system.

This paper proposed a novel single-phase soft-switching unipolar PWM rectifier (SSUPR) using a simple auxiliary resonant unit. All main switches of high-frequency arm operate at zero-voltage-switching (ZVS) turn-on, while the auxiliary switches operate at zero-current-switching (ZCS) turn-off. All main switches of low-frequency arm operate at 60 Hz to greatly reduce switching losses. Moreover, a soft-switching unipolar PWM strategy is used for the proposed soft-switching rectifier. This strategy results in a better input current waveform than for the bipolar PWM strategy. Furthermore, the proposed rectifier achieves a near unity power factor, a sinusoidal input current and a bidirectional power flow capability. Some experimental results of the proposed SSUPR, rated 500 W and operated at 40 kHz, are presented for verification.

This paper proposed a low cost wireless monitoring system based on ZigBee wireless transmission, and designed a new floating voltage sensor which is suitable for the monitoring of medium voltage and high voltage(MV/HV) public equipment. The system used TI-CC2530 as the controller, proposed a new moving average voltage sensing(MAVS) algorithm by reasonable assumptions, and adopted algorithms to perform the theoretical analysis for the single phase and three-phase voltage. At last, the author carried out a practical experiment on the wireless floating voltage sensor under the voltage up to 30kV, the experimental results showed that the proposed low cost wireless sensor can achieve a good voltage monitoring function, and the error is less than 3%.
