ABSTRACTThe first zinc gallium oxysulfides (ZnGa2O4−xSx) are synthesized and emission properties of ZnGa2O4−xSx and ZnGa2O4−xSx:Mn2+ have been investigated. The sulfur in ZnGa2O4−xSx forms tetrahedrons and the cations in ZnGa2O4−xSx are randomly distributed between tetrahedrons and octahedrons such that ZnGa2O4 structure can be viewed as a mixed spinel. The four-fold enhancement of the brightness of Mn2+emission can be the significant effect of forming oxysulfide in ZnGa2O4−xSx:Mn2+
