This is a case analysis of a 73-year-old Chinese man admitted to the cardiac intensive care unit (ICU) with fever and general pain. Based on the patient’s initial condition of multi-organ function impairment and increased serum ferritin, and after a series of examinations, the patient was diagnosed with Klebsiella pneumonia-induced hemophagocytic lymphohistiocytosis (HLH). Meropenem and dexamethasone were used in combination to treat the patient, and the results were very successful. In this case report, it is further suggested that Klebsiella pneumoniae is a possible trigger of HLH, and a combination of antibiotics and corticosteroids can be effective in treating HLH. It is also recommended that doctors in the ICU of each department should pay attention to the role of hyperferritinemia in the diagnosis of HLH, and ICU admission teams should include ferritin in their monitoring.

In this paper, we consider a memristive circuit consisting of three elements: a passive linear inductor, a passive linear capacitor and an active memristive device. The circuit is described by a four-parameter system of ordinary differential equations. We study in detail the role of parameters in the dynamics of the system. Using the existence of first integrals, we show that the circuit may present a continuum of stable periodic orbits, which arise due to the occurrence of infinitely many simultaneous zero-Hopf bifurcations on a line of equilibria located in the region where the memristance is negative and, consequently, the memristive device is locally-active. These bifurcations lead to multistability, which is a difficult and interesting problem in applied models, since the final state of a solution depends crucially on its initial condition. We also study the control of multistability by varying a parameter related to the state variable of the memristive device. All analytical results obtained were corroborated by numerical simulations.

The preemptive role of capital is analyzed in a class of differential games of capital accumulation with reversible investment for two symmetric players. Two dynamic concepts of interaction are defined: feedback substitutability and feedback complementarity. These concepts are useful for exploring the dynamic properties of the stocks. In particular it is proved that if the equilibrium of the game is characterized by feedback substitutability, the firm with the higher initial condition overshoots his long-run level of capital.

When one contemplates the one-parameter family of steady inviscid shear flows discovered by J. T. Stuart in 1967, an obvious thought is that these flows resemble a row of vortices diffusing in a viscous fluid, with the parameter playing the role of a reversed time. In this paper, we ask how close this resemblance is. Accordingly, the paper begins to explore Navier–Stokes solutions having as initial condition the classical, irrotational flow due to a row of point vortices. However, since we seek explicit answers, such exploration seems possible only in two relatively easy cases: that of small time and arbitrary Reynolds number and that of small Reynolds number and arbitrary time.
