With the development of medicine, people are more and more aware of the status quo of autistic children. At the same time, more people are concerned about how to help autistic children to establish their social ties, so as to make them have a better life. In recent years, some researches have found that music has generally become a tool for autistic children to communicate with society. Therefore, this paper attempts to emphasize and study how music treats autism from the perspective of music expression and music learning. And then provide reference for more music education attempts.

Scholars theorizing in the area of social justice and music education argue that music has the potential to prepare students to engage in a society that cultivates personal freedom and democratic participation. The continued reliance on values and practices of Western art music within music teacher education has resulted in a disconnect between this discourse and professional practice. The status quo perpetuates conditions that limit accessibility, privilege western art music and maintain whiteness as ‘normal’. In this article, I suggest that this disconnection can be addressed by introducing culturally relevant pedagogy within music education training programmes. Culturally relevant pedagogy, focusing on reflexive practice and place-based education, requires pre-service music educators to think deeply about experiences of marginalized music education students and critically examine the values and beliefs they hold. Embedding the values of culturally relevant pedagogy within music education training creates space for music from different cultural contexts including popular music.

Autism spectrum disorders (ASDs) are a collection of conditions characterized by stereo typed behaviors and narrow interests and pervasive problems with communication and social interactions. Globally, researchers are working on identifying the root cause and management of ASD. Although research on autism is at nascent stage in Bangladesh but in terms of social epidemicity, it is currently an utmost important issue. The aim of the study is to analyze the effect of age, sex, birth weight, mother’s pregnancy duration, pregnancy time complicacy and genetic linkage on autism. The study also related, the socio-economic status of the autistic children and satisfaction of parent on government response in this issue. The study was conducted on 50 patients in 2 Autistic Schools (Bangladesh Protibondhi Foundation and Autistic Children Welfare Foundation, Bangladesh) of the Dhaka City from June 2010 to December 2010. Study related data were collected through a predesigned questionnaire In our study out of 50 children with autism 86% were male and 24% were in the age range between 73to 84 months. About 84% children with autism were lived in urban area and about 52% were belonging at the upper middle class. The main signs and symptoms observed, was prefer to play alone (i.e. 74%). Moreover 60% children with autism talks later than age 2 and 58% had poor eye contact. During our study we have observed that 14% children were linked by heredity and 10% have siblings with same problem. Rett syndrome (i.e. 40%) and autistic disorder (i.e., 32%) were more commonly observed. From the prescription, the study revealed, physicians diagnosed speech delay in 32% patient and 8% were diagnosed with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder. For treatment physicians mainly prescribes vitamins (i.e. 50%), antiepileptic drugs (i.e. 12%), and antipsychotic drugs (i.e. 4%). Besides most of the children were treated with physical and occupational therapy but no objection was found with vaccine. During our study we had observed that, 82% parents were not satisfied by the steps taken by the government yet. This study observed that, apart from alarming increase rate of autism in Dhaka City, modern diagnosis and medication facilities as well as therapies are deficit. Therefore, the new born babies and upcoming parents are at great risk due to insufficiency of awareness. So proper awareness programs and more facilities for autistic children should be introduced by both government and non-government sectors.

Taking into consideration the recent attempts made by scientific researchers to study the learning process as well as the process of learning music, it is assumed that both are subject to the same methodological rigour as the ones which originate from different backgrounds and subjects, espe- cially in the case of studies based upon quantitative strategy. There is a need for a thorough theo- retical analysis, which has been present in Polish educational market for over 20 years, of music learning theory by E.E. Gordon in terms of its functionality in research development. The author of the article outlines a thorough analysis of learning theory in terms of its scientific rationality, theo- retical and practical background. The author also conducts a selective description of its fundamental concepts in terms of undertaking research exploration. In these circumstances, the focus is placed upon projecting, conceptualisation and operationalisation of the attempts made by researchers in the subject of early school music education and widely understood music pedagogy.

In recent years, there has been much criticism of multiculturalism for its failure to address the power and privilege that keep the status quo in music education. Continued support and education is needed to grow preservice, practicing, and even veteran teachers’ skills in teaching and learning music genres from a broader range of music cultures. To that end, the purpose of this column is to examine the potential for bringing music from Ghana, West Africa, into the general music setting. A brief introduction to the music culture of Ghana is presented first, then a traditional song with teaching suggestions, followed by a list of suggested print and recorded resources.
