A method of image fusion based on wavelet decomposition of the original images is considered. An integrated monochrome image is formed from images of the same scene obtained in different spectral ranges. A strategy for fusing detail coefficients by comparing the proportions of their magnitudes for all original images is proposed. The fusion procedure does not require any thresholds. This fusion procedure can be performed for any number of original images. The algorithm does not introduce additional distortions and collects all the necessary information from the original images. The quantitative and qualitative evaluation of the results was performed. The proposed algorithm can be used in optoelectronic systems for automatic image processing.

The multidimensional Discrete Wavelet Transform (DWT) has been widely used in signal and image processing for regularly sampled data. For irregularly sampled data, however, other techniques should be used including the Least Square Wavelet Decomposition (LSWD). The commonly used level by level (sequential) wavelet decomposition, which calculates the wavelet coefficients in each resolution separately, may result in a gross interpolation error. To overcome this drawback, a different approach called the Simultaneous Least Square Wavelet Decomposition, which computes all wavelet coefficients simultaneously, have been proposed by the authors. In this paper, we extend the simultaneous LSWD approach to the multidimensional case and show that this method has excellent reconstruction property for two dimensional irregularly spaced data.

Better understanding of the real world can be obtained by fusion of images with complementary information. It was shown that an image fusion technique based on wavelet decomposition seems to be a better trade-off between spectral and spatial information in a single image. This paper presents a novel image fusion scheme that is based on wavelet transform and fuzzy logic. The two source images are first decomposed using the discrete wavelet transformation (DWT). Then different rules are used for different components in the fusion procedure. Local average energy is utilized as the fusion parameter for the low frequency component first; then membership degree of wavelet transform coefficient is used as the fusion parameter for the high frequency parts; finally, the fused image is obtained by taking inverse wavelet transform from the combined coefficients. The proposed fusion approach is shown to be effective using some remote sensing test images.

An image-adaptive watermarking algorithm based on wavelet transform was proposed. At first, A digital image used as watermarking was scrambled. Next, the original image was decomposed by discrete wavelet transform, and in accordance with the characteristics of human visual system, wavelet decomposition in the low-frequency domain, Methods which average of adjacent domain instead of single wavelet decomposition coefficients was used to estimate and quantitative, watermarking was adaptively embedded in wavelet coefficients of low-frequency domain. At last, the simulation experimental results show that the algorithm for a variety of conventional image processing has good robustness.

We presented 3D fusion technique based on wavelet transform for analyzing 3D dataset of gravity and magnetic inversion intuitively and comprehensively. The technique expands the conventional 2D image fusion technique based on wavelet transform to 3D case, including using 3D wavelet decomposition and reconstruction to replace 2D ones and reforming the fusion rules of high and low frequency components in 3D field. The disciplines of some crucial parameters related to the 3D fusion technique were provided, so that bring some convenient to use this techinique. The synthetic data test showed that the 3D fusion technique is effetive and reliable.
