A substantial amount of beverages wastewater from production and the cleaning process that is not treated properly contain high amount of organic substances that will cause an environmental destruction. This research aim to investigate the performance of the moving bed biofilm reactor (MBBR) treating beverages wastewater with (CMBAC) and without activated carbon (CMB). Cosmo balls as an attached growth media placed inside the reactor were coated with granular activated carbon on its surface. 18L of MBBR using cosmo ball was set to operate at hydraulic retention time and flowrate of 8 hours and 1.5 L/hr, respectively. The reactor parameters retained at pH 7 with minimum dissolved oxygen concentration of 2 mg/L. MBBR using CMBAC attained the best result with the highest percentage removal for chemical oxygen demand and total suspended solid of 92.7% and 83.4%, respectively. The efficiency of organic removal in the reactor increase due to the activated carbon absorption.
