Research Show

This research aims to verify the contribution of three commercial buildings in providing places for public in Bandung and Jakarta city in Indonesia. To achieve this goal, some field observations, interviews and evaluation of public activities at the buildings were conducted. The public uses and the ways the company manages the buildings that enable public activities were evaluated. The results of this research show that some types of public activities are identified. Taiping Lake Garden (TLG) is one of the remaining British legacies located in Taiping, Perak. TLG is facing the transformation of English landscape environment, and diminishing the public appreciation on its historical value. This study aims to investigate the transformation of TLG’s historical value in the current environment, and to propose suggestions in promoting public awareness towards conserving the historical value in historic garden. This study has assessed the public awareness through a combination of survey and case study. Edutourism initiatives in Malaysia started in 2015. It was envisaged that edutourism will affect all actors positively. However, the outcome is less than expected. The study investigates the challenges faced by the public universities in materializingedutourism initiatives. Primary data was collected through interviews with the operator/players in selected public universities. The major hindrances to edutourism are related to the readiness of academicians involved in edutourism projects, lack of incentives, and universities policies and procedure. This study contributes to an in-depth understanding of challenges in organizing edutourism. The findings would lead to further improvement of edutourism initiates and efforts.eISSN: 2398-4287© 2018. Existences of public spaces in cities are essentials for social interactions to take place, fostering the creation of sustainable, safe and livable cities. Although public spaces are often designed for certain activities, existence of unplanned spaces seemed interwoven in the cityscape, some in the form of leftover spaces, including under the flyovers and bridges, which offers an abundance of opportunities. This paper attempts to review activities under flyovers initiated by its local community in Kuala Lumpur and aims to contribute in further identifying the leftover spaces, and to the possible activities to be considered in developing these spaces to benefit surrounding communities. This paper attempts to assess the adaptability quality of Malioboro Street and district related to the physical and functional transformation as part of the urban negotiation and response to the ever changing environment of Indonesian cities. The street was qualitatively measured utilising field observations including physical mapping, behavioural mapping and in-depth interviews. The study aims to identify the current conditions of the traditional neighbourhood (Hara) environment of Sana’a old city and to evaluate the outcomes of adaptive reuse. A case study of Hara Al-Abhar was made with the following instruments: On-site spatial observation and measurements and in-depth structured interviews. The study revealed the enhancement of income to house owners and the revival of traditional handicrafts. The disadvantage is that it disturbs the resident's privacy with the increment of vehicular accessibility and previously open public spaces and streets becoming parking spaces. This paper examines the factors that make people use the street in Kuala Lumpur city centre. The study employed a mix-methodology method. The results suggest that the needs of users on the street depend on various factors, such as attractions; activities and reasons; proximity, lack of congestion; familiarity and length of engagement with the place public space. The findings show that, in general, the factors that make people use the street are mostly similar with previous theories. Perceptions of people with disability(PWDs) is pertinent to enable PWDs to integrate into the mainstream society. This study examines the perception of PWDs on acceptance of disability by PWDS themselves and by the public and its association with the demographic factors. The findings show besides inadequate infrastructure and support system, PWDs with lower qualification perceives a low acceptance of disability by the public. Given this, a well-structured inclusive special education together with an adequate infrastructure is essential to have a higher perception of acceptance of disability and for PWDS to participate in the economy.Keywords: people with disability; acceptance; perception; disability.eISSN 2398-4295 © 2018. Tourism is a sector that always has a dynamic movement which will benefit the local community. Lumban Suhi-suhi is a tourist village famous for its ulos on Samosir Island that has become one of the tourist attraction. Due to the limitations of facilities arrangement make it becomes less of the attraction itself. Therefore, the environment-based mechanism becomes one of the concepts that will be applied to improve the tourist facilities in which could increase tourists in that area. There is a close relationship between the creation of urban spaces and ergonomics. To make new stimulating and satisfying urban spaces, ergonomics criteria should consider. In this study, two main urban squares from Istanbul examined. Selected urban squares evaluated by site observation according to the classified ergonomics criteria. Strong and weak points of chosen squares discussed and some suggestions proposed. The results demonstrated the fact that urban equipment meets the individual ergonomic criteria are not sufficient in the use of both squares, and they need to be re-planned.Keywords: Ergomomics; urban squares, IstanbuleISSN: 2398-4287 © 2019.
