Densities, refractive indices and viscosities of the binary mixtures of dimethyl phthalate (or dimethyl adipate) + tetrahydrofuran have been measured at eight temperatures (288.15 to 323.15 K) and atmospheric pressure. All measurements were performed using an Anton Paar DMA 5000 digital vibrating-tube densimeter, Anton Paar RXA 156 refractometer and Anton Paar SVM 3000/G2 digital Stabinger viscometer, respectively. From the experimental densities, refractive indices and viscosities, the excess molar volumes, VE, deviations of refractive indices, DnD, and viscosity deviations, Dh, were calculated.

Densities of binary mixtures of 1-propanol, or 2-butanol, or 1-pentanol + cyclohexylamine were measured at temperatures from 288.15 to 313.15 K and atmospheric pressure, while the densities for the system 2-methyl-2-propanol + cyclohexylamine were measured at temperatures from 303.15 to 323.15 K and atmospheric pressure. All measurements were performed using an Anton Paar DMA 5000 digital vibrating-tube densimeter. From the experimental densities, the excess molar volumes, VE, were calculated.

Excess molar volumes in the benzene-tert-amyl methyl ether and cyclohexane-tert-amyl methyl ether systems were measured by a vibrating-tube densimeter at 298.15 K and compared with the data for the methanol-tert-amyl methyl ether system determined previously. Besides, the refractive indices in both the systems were measured at the same temperature.

Excess molar volumes and excess refractive indices of the n-octanol + 1,4-dioxane + 2-butanol system and the three corresponding binary mixtures have been determined at 298.15 K by measuring densities and refractive indices. Different expressions exist in the literature to predict these excess properties from binary data. An estimation of excess molar volumes is also evaluated using a modified Heller equation which depends on the refractive indices of the mixtures. A comparison of the predictions of different methods with the experimental values of the physical properties has been made.Key words: excess molar volumes, densities, refractive indices, n-octanol, 1,4-dioxane, 2-butanol, ternary system.
